[slightly OT] what is Aragon's STR? (possible spoilers)

Ok, for those that have seen the two towers, Aragorn tosses Gimli, and Gimli is holding onto him when they are going up the rope. So, in DnD terms, what you think his STR is?

I'd say 17. Since Gimli isn't quite as mutant-heavy as D&D Dwarves are, I figure he'd be about 170 pounds in chain armor. At 17 Str, Gimli would be only medium encumbrance, so Aragorn only needed his DC 10 Climb check with a -3 Armor Check Penalty (assuming his armor didn't make that worse already) to do the rope trick. If Aragorn put any ranks into Climb (he probably did), he doesn't need to be that lucky. If that rope had a knot in it, the check was DC 5 and almost a sure thing!

The tossing is harder to judge, since no rules exist in D&D to decide such issues. At Str 17, Aragorn can easily pick Gimli up and still move, so tossing him a short distance shouldn't be TOO big a deal, say a DC 17 Strength check. That means Aragorn got a good roll.

If you figure Gimli couldn't encumber Aragorn at all to do such things, then Aragorn would need to be Str 22. This seems a little high, since he would have fared better in his wrestling against Lurtz in the first movie if it were that high!

New epic level feat
Toss the dwarf
Prereqs:
+21 to hit
18 strength
1 willing dwarf(easier to toss)
if unwilling make opposed strength checks to see if you can pick the dwarf up.....and then be like mike..
goes for the air shot...
And it is good!

As far as the "toss" goes, I think that -in game terms- you'd have to give the assist from Gimli. Probably more of an "alley oop" than a straight throw of dead weight. Or possibly Aragorn giving Gimli an assist to his Jump?

Though on screen it wasn't easy to tell (happened pretty fast)...

ANOTHER REASON TO WATCH IT AGAIN!! :D

Aragorn is a great example of epic-level tracking. Yow!

To judge from the movie ... definitely.

To judge from the books, no. Aragorn loses the trail a number of times under circumstances much less difficult than the PHB sets for a DC 25-30 tracking check. I've made the case in the past that I don't see the Fellowship as epic-level characters, but most folks don't agree with me (see my versions of them at the Middle Earth d20 site).
