Slow is naaasty

Against pure meleers Slow is really nasty... they will never be able to attack, since their opponents can just back away 5 ft. and they cannot follow-up and do anything else. Of course they can just stay away, but if coupled with a ranged fighter or someone with Spring Attack or Ride by Attack even that isn't going to help...

So, better always have a ranged weapon with you!

Well... I think that a 5ft step is still allowed, as it is a free action. I think it's just that your total speed is halved, not that your movement is halved.
I'm sure that makes sense to somebody...

But yes, Slow is a very nasty spell!

You should still be able to make a 5' step. You just won't be able to make a full attack as well, whereas the other guy can.

Right. And if the opponent is willing to move more than 5 ft. every few rounds he can get a single attack, then a couple of full attacks while you close, then move and single attack again. Miserable.

Can't find the part in the SRD, which says you cannot make a 5 ft. step then, but it is in the glossary in the back of the PHB under "half-speed" (or so).

Pretty similar to the above, or not?

As Thanee said, no 5 ft step when slowed. I love that spell

Always thought it works that way, but I just realized in play how nasty this is in combination with the single action only and characters that can really exploit this weakness (like Archer and mounted Paladin, or well... just the spellcaster who cast the Slow spell).

EDIT: Revert that... you cannot charge at all... double ouch!

No: a creature restricted to moving at half speed can't charge.
