Slow PC!

One thing you can do to make the system feel more responsive (without actually fixing it) is to turn off menu effects. Go into Display Properties->Appearance Tab->Effects Button and uncheck the "transition effect" box. Menus will open faster and use fewer resources.

Also, how much ram do you have? You might just need more. My system is pristine, but I still needed more ram because I switch back and forth between applications so much.

Wow. That certainly helped with the slow context menu problem. Thank you!

I have noticed that the "Send To >" option in the context menu is always very slow. I never, ever use it, but can't identify what to disable for that particular entry. I tried Microsoft Send To Shell Extension, but that didn't disable it. Any ideas?

What I did is disable any non-Microsoft extensions, and re-enabled them one by one until I found problematic ones.

Sometimes it's not the Microsoft entry itself, but another program that attaches to it. Other than that, it's all trial and error. :)

There's also tools for managing Send To, such as Send To Toys. I've never tried it though, but it has "Add to Send To" and "Remove from Send To" functionality.

Moved from previous post so you don't miss it, as it's important:

EDIT: Another thing, if an extension is trying to load something off the network, it can slow to a crawl. Look for UNCs ("\\somehost\somepath") in your registry to see if something is trying to go to a network.

Yeah, did that the day I bought it! :)

512. It's a laptop, so I'm pretty much stuck with it. I don't run much on it, though - web browsing, Outlook, a few bits and pieces.
