Smallville - 02/15/2007 "Freak"

Spoilers for this and previous episodes only, please.

I really enjoyed this episode. This has been one of my favorite seasons of the show.

It'll be interesting to see if they ever let Chloe's Krypto powers manifest and if she becomes evil because of it. I thought it was interesting that Chloe claims to have never met a meteor freak who wasn't evil, yet the guy with the Krypto finding eyes didn't seem to be evil, just a dupe.

Wonder where they'll go with Lana in relation to Clark now that she knows he isn't a meteor freak but she has evidence that he's not quite human. Can we have Clark get over her soon? :D

It seems that Lana's baby might not be Lex's. It all depends on how serious he took the oath he swore to Lana on the life of his unborn child that he wasn't involved in the kidnappings (when we all knew he was).

I thought it was a really great episode. It had the Clark-Lana thing, which I generally don't like, but it had it in a good way. Chloe being a freak is a great twist, I love it.

No cool other superheroes or nifty battles or new power or whatever, but a very good story episode.

The thing I probably liked best out of the entire episode was Clark using his powers both effectively and fairly intelligently. Even making very good use of his super-breath and super-speed to snatch the computer while looking totally innocent.

I'm thinking Chloe's meteor-freak power isn't the flashy sort we typically see, but instead has more to do with her uber-leet computer skills. Should be interesting to see how this particular twist plays itself out, especially with talk of Chloe's mom showing up in March and having powers of her own.

Okay, so now that Lana is homing in on Clark's secret and the weirdness associated with it (such as the necklace Neil gave her that's now clear crystal back from Season 2), either she's gonna die, Clark and Lana are actually going to be able to have a fairly normal friendship, or we're coming up on the end of the series. But at least she seems to have realized that Clark does a lot of good for people.

Smallville is the most hot/cold show I've ever watched where I can love one episode and then hate the next three.

This was one of the ones I loved. It really developed and turned the characters in new directions rather than just going over new ground. Hearing that Rosebaum (sp?) who plays Lex is not going to be around after next season (season 7) makes me think that the show is nearly done, which it should be. Clark is very nearly fully powered and he's ready to go out on his own.

Chloe being a freak was a nice twist. I have decided to take the "freaks are evil" comments as her trying to bluff Lana rather than just poor writing.

Lana is going to die, probably also killing her child. And the wedding will never happen. I'm nearly sure of it.

Lana is going to die.

Why do you think that? She's alive and well, and has known Superman's secret for years in the comics. The Lana thing seesm to be following that quite closely.

Theory 1:
Lana is somewhat put off the trail on Clark due to the freak-finder telling her Clark didn't have powers. But... she still has the memory of the bent screwdriver (but not the actual screwdriver, not that it matters), and knows that this screwdriver struck Clark. Clark, following his discussion with Lana about people with meteor shower-induced abilities, is starting to feel like he should tell Lana about his abilities. Also, Clark doesn't want Lana to marry Lex. So... what does he do? Wait til the wedding, THEN TELL LANA. It's dramatic, and a good way to end this season. Throw in some sort of cliffhanger, of course. Maybe the mansion blows up. That'd be cool. Right after Clark tells Lana.

Theory 2:
The baby belongs to Clark. How? Well, Lex has had plenty of opportunities to get Clark's DNA. How hard would it be - given LuthorCorp's level of technical sophistication - for Lex to create a 'sample' from that DNA and have it implanted into Lana to see what sort of baby would be produced??? It's not much of a leap for me, and I think that's how it goes down. Lana won't have the baby though. Maybe the explosion (see above) causes her to miscarry.

Thoughts?

But just by having Clark's DNA Lex could tell that Clark is not human.

Also I thought Clark and Lana slept together?

My theory:

Lex fathered Lana's child at the end of last season/beginning of this season, when Lex was the vessel of Zod's consciousness. Thus, it's really Zod's child.

I think they did sleep together once and clark got all wierded out.

But before that, there was an episode that it was implied that Clark might have slept with Chloe.

In any case, I'm glad there was no Lois. How many Crow wrinkles can a 20 year old have.

Just a gut feeling. It would be a final nail in the Lex/Clark relationship if each sees the other as responsible for Lana's death. Plus Clark can never move on while she's around.
