Smallville 10-07-2004 [SPOILERS]

The Miniseries notwithstanding, Clark "SuperBaby" Kent flew as a very small child. Of course, they keep re-writing history, so...

As for the new Lois Lane that everyone else keeps raving about, I DON'T LIKE HER! She's snarky, kinda stuck-up & snotty, doesn't seem to have a shred of decency, and they CUT the scenes of her manipulating her dad by turning on the waterworks (oh, Boo-hoo)!

What's to like? Looks aren't enough, for me. Lana can begrudge idiotically small things, and turn on a Soap-Opera dime, but she's a whole lot nicer than Lois, most of the time. Chloe's even better.

Somebody take the red kryptonite ring off Kal-el, so he'll stop chasing the bad girl! (Whut a yutz!) :p

Now c'mon!... I CAN'T be the only guy who dislikes the new Lois! Fess up, people!

Sorry. I don't think she's a mega-babe (Chloe and Lana are much more physically attractive, in my book), but she's got great chemistry with Clark -- it's easy to see there's something there that never was entirely there between Clark & Lana, and never was there at all between Clark & Chloe.

The thing about Lois and Clark, it seems to me, is that the two of them seem to have fun with each other. Lois enjoys getting Clark's goose, and by this week's episode, you can see him starting to rib her back as well. They feel like friends. Unlike Lana, the walking Tension supernova, or even Chloe. It's easy to imagine Lois and Clark just lazing on the couch watching TV and joking with each other. Neither of the other girls has that kind of feel.

How can you not have enough credits to get into college? All you need is a GED or high school diploma (and to be accepted). Or do you mean she was attending a community college, and doesn't have enough units to transfer to a university?
This is how it worked for me in California, USA. College applications are sent out early in the senior year of high school. The replies come in early in the second semester, long before final senior grades are given out. The acceptance letters (or at least the ones I received) are conditional. You are accepted, so long as you maintain at least a C average for the remainder of your senior year.

Lois' dad mentioned that Lois failed most of her classes her last year. So her college was revoking her acceptance. That all meshes with the way college admissions worked for me. Now, what happens after that point I don't know. Whether you can merely make up the classes and still be accepted or would actually have to re-apply I couldn't tell you. I made sure to have at least a C average my senior year! :p

I actually worked in the Enrollment office at CSU Long Beach for several years, so I can confirm this. :)

Actually, it's even easier than that. You don't even really need a "C" average (total), so long as you pass the required courses. Usually what happens to make people fail (most who apply that early have already completed almost all of their required courses) is that they slack off and get a D or F in their final semester of English (which is a requirement- 4 years of English). It always amazes me how many people- otherwise great students- decide to blow their last semester off because they got an early (aka "conditional") acceptance.

Lois' dad mentioned that Lois failed most of her classes her last year. So her college was revoking her acceptance.

Gotcha. It was the way it was worded (not enough credits) that threw me. (When I think of credits, I think of college; we don't/didn't call them "credits" in admissions. Not at a high school level, anyway.)

OT, but you can do a couple things. A lot of those really good students would appeal, and either make up the coursework in the summer before fall admission, or else come to some arrangement to make them up in the fall (very rare). They might be directed to another school system- the CSU and UCs are on the same requirement list now, but other schools have different (and more lenient) entry requirements. Alternatively- and what a lot of students out here in CA do- is make up the required general ed in Community College, then transfer in to the university (which is where my confusion about the question of credits came in). It's actually tougher to do now- a couple years ago, they changed the CSU transfer policy so that you can only transfer in as a junior essentially- meaning a lot more CC for transfers than they used to need.

Thanks for clarifying what Sam Lane said, though. Maybe Lois is attending Smallville Community College? :)

Whoa. Talk about the layman trying to explain to the expert! :o

Now that you mention it, that was true for me too. "Credits" is really a college term. I guess I didn't really buzz on it because he mentioned acceptance, so I was still thinking of it in admissions terms.

So you were right after all, then. Even though her revoked acceptance meshes, the fact that her solution is to go back to HS is decidedly contrived. :)

Seems like it. Unless she didn't graduate at all because her grades were so bad. Also, didn't Chloe say in previous seasons that her cousin was already in college? A revoked acceptance would still work with that angle, but re-enrolling in HS? Hmm... Think I'll hop over to Kryptonsite and see if they've come up with an explanation...

Well, it matters not, now!

LOIS LANE HAS LEFT THE SMALLVILLE!!!

YEAH!!!

:D

Miss Snarky has left the building! The Steve rejoices! May we not see her, again, until Metropolis!

Now maybe we can get a lot less sexcapades, and a lot more clothed Clark, and a bit MORE plot!

Chloe loves Clark... Duh! Never saw THAT coming! :p Lex & Clark back together... Business as usual, again, huh? Nobody even missed Clark, after his three month disappearance... Yawn!

Hmmmm, sorry to burst that wonderful bubble (not on purpose mind you), Lois Lane persona will be back around November, caught the news on the Daily News Paper(NY) in the TV section.

And the Lex and Clark business...will contine to widen(OOPS..bite my tongue, your crystal ball is working better than mine...:o ), and yes, Chloe DOES love Clark, but now, I am not pleased with the torture, it isn't nice, and for the sexcapdes part.

Erm....that is a iffy decision...:\

Sorry, but I like this pre-adult Lois Lane. This is how she should start off. I mean I don't see her being Mother Teresa or the other extreme, a Meangirl, but a snotty military brat who can get away with things? Hell, yeah!

How do you see Lois Lane in her younger years? A Nancy Drew rip-off? A lesbian goth chick? An androgynous boy with a sexual identity crisis?

Well, I hate to say, I didn't enjoy this week's episode that much. However I did like the acknowledgements at the beginning and end of the show.

At the beginning:
Smallville said:
Christopher Reeve 1952-2004

At the End:
Smallville said:
In Loving Memory of Christopher Reeve "He made us believe a man could fly."
