Smallville: Bruce Wayne

The Serge

First Post
Last summer, I read an article from IGN that Bruce "The Batman" Wayne was scheduled become a recurring character on Smallville, apparently next season. IIRC, he's supposed to have a relationship (with a degree of animosity) with Lex Luthor, having attended the same boarding school. He and Clark are also not supposed to get along at all, sort of in preparation for the relationship that will expand when the two become The Batman and Superman.

Has anyone heard more about this?

Thanks!

Salutations,

I had never heard of the plan to make him recurring, but that would be cool. I had just heard they had hoped to use him at some point.

I would be hard pressed to think of what they would do with him. Perhaps he is there to do business with Lex, but gets caught up between Lex/Lionel schemes. And of course, in the end he is the one that comes out on top..

It would be a little silly to have so many multimillionaires hanging out in a farm community. Now.. if/when they move the series to Metropolis to follow Clark's college days.. that would be cool.

Here's what I read from several interviews with Smallville creators Gough and Millar:

- The rights to the DC universe are very fractured, so they'd still have to run after the rights to use Bruce Wayne. For a moment there was going to be a Batman vs. Superman movie, which excluded the TV possibility, but since the movie went kaput, it's more likely that Bruce might show up in Season 3 or so.

- They'd love to use him for one episode (not as a recurring character).

- They see Bruce as being about the same age as Lex, perhaps even coming from the same boarding school.

- At this point in his life, Bruce would have returned from his worldwide trip of training, but still lack much of the self-restraint he eventually exercises as Batman, so he's quite the angry young man, wrestling with demons he can't yet focus against crime.

- Bruce and Clark would most definitely not get along well.

- Clark's last line to Bruce: "I think you should seek professional help."

This sounds cool and I have also heard that Bruce will be a one time thing if at all.
Chris Reeves Character is going to be a recurring character though. I hope this turns out better than it sounds.

I'm still wondering when Lois Lane is going to show up, supposedly a senior at Metropolis High School visiting Smallville for the Homecoming game (oh yeah, she's also captain of the cheerleading squad).

It would be a nice tie-in to have Bruce Wayne appear on Smallville, as a college buddy/roommate of Lex Luthor, which is appropriate since they're both sons of the social elites.

The thought I've heard circulating about is that "Lois Lane" doesn't quite exist yet - that one Chloe Sullivan, seeing to find a catchier byline, may change her name upon entering the journalism trade...

Somehow that does not sit well with me.

My personal hunch ... she's a tragic figure. She'll die at the end of the series, preferably at the hand of Lex Luthor. That will be the straw that break the camel's back and end the Clark-Lex friendship.

On the krypto website noted above, they mention that Chloe is Lois Lane's cousin.

Scroll down to the very bottom, the section labeled "More Spoilers" it is the first bullet item.

Edit: Adding above link and location of said spoiler so that I did not sound like a loon without something to back up my statement :)
