Just an FYI for those who catch the show ...

According to http://www.kryptonsite.com/

The voice of Jor-El in both the Calling (scheduled May 13, last week) and the Exodus epsiode (scheduled for May 20, this week)has been Terence Stamp.

Fans of the movies will remember this actor as General Zod. :)

Anyway, just thought I'd mention it in case the info is found to be interesting by anyone :)

Yeah, I read about that just after watching it during the week. I actually didn't hear Kal-El called by name at first so I had to go back and check it out. Very cool stuff. Just the mention of all this Superman lore is cool and I believe is a solid setup for next season. I think the best stuff is to come. :)

My only complaint is they are making Kryptonians into some sort of conquerers. Not even really a complaint... Just found it odd.

I do believe they have left this open. By leaving it open I mean that they have the possibility there that the symbols have just been misinterpreted. Reasons I say this:

Only three people have said anything about the nature/origin of the Kryptonians.

* Dr. Swan - he doesn't mention them as conquerers (or maybe he does and I forgot?) ... plus, I would imagine Swan would be more frieghtened then curious about Clark and therefore not wanting to meet him if Swan really believed Clark was there for conquering.

* Clark - but he hasn't seen the symbols before so he could just be misinterpretting them (and I think both his parents keep reminding him of this fact)

* coma guy (forgot his name). He doesn't actually say that clark was sent to take over the planet. Only that he is an alien and that out of fear for what the alien could do ("if he was here to conquer") that is why he must be stopped...

-- Of course, add the qualifier that I don't watch the show regularly enough and have missed more than a couple episodes (and even those I see, I don't get to see all of them sometimes) so I may have missed some specific references to his origins.

but, yeah, what you say is true, that is generally what they are trying to get the audience to believe. That all signs that have been understood so far show the Kryptonians to be a race of conquerers.

... ah well, maybe this season's finale will have some answers since Jor-El will apperently be speaking so origins and all will most likly be mentioned if not discussed at length.

(hey, I just brought this full-circle ;) )

In the comics, it wasn't a matter of the Kryptonians being conquerors. Jor-El felt that because of the powers Kal would possess and his Kryptonian heritage that it would be natural for him to rule the earth. It was a matter of Jor-El's feeling that Kryptonians were more "civilized" than humans and thus more suited to rule. Not really an "alien" concept here on earth (ie England and the colonies, US and the native americans, etc).

After the Crisis restart, Byrne had Clark receive a message from his father stating he should rule the humans and that it was his destiny as a Kryptonian. Clark did have doubts and, after talking with his parents, did some thinking. He came to the conclusion that he was raised by humans as a human being. His powers didn't change that the fact that he thought of himself as a human being and he could choose his destiny as a human, not Kryptonian.

It will be interesting to watch the finale and see if it gets resolved.

We all think of this as kind of sinister. Clark sent to rule the world. Well, try this for a possibility - perhaps the Kryptonians were pretty decent, civic minded folks, and the words for "to rule" and "to protect" were the same, or that "rulership" in Kryptonian has strong connotations of service to the people that Clark doesn't quite get from his download of language?

Umbran, good point, that's exactly what I was thinking, too. If you're a truly benevolent and giving "ruler," then it's all about serving those in your care, helping them and shouldering a ton of responsibility for their safety and happiness. I figure it's just a misunderstanding not about the language but wha the cultural implications of rulership are.

I love this show, its like the coolest show on tv right now. Anyone heard the hopefully not true rumors that WB has cancelled the show, or is that just a spiteful rumor that should be squashed?

Anyway, the way they have finished this season is fricken awesome and I can't wait until next season. I am just bummed that Clark picked Lois and not Chloe (who is just a cooler person).
