Smallville or Dullsville

Personally I was far more disturbed by the idea of a senior dating a freshman at the beginning of the show.

However, it happens all the time. In my high school, the number of freshman girls dating senior guys was probably as large as the number of freshmen dating freshmen. For the most part, it had to do with the girls maturing slightly faster than guys, as well as the "coolness" of dating an older guy. Heck, I dated a Freshman in my Junior year of high school, and that age difference wasn't that far off.

I my school (and every other school I ever heard of) it was rare to see girls dating boys of the same grade. They usually date boys one or two grades above their own (much of this is credited to the fact that girls mature intellectually faster than boys... but also due to the fact that older boys can "borrow" dad's car...). When I was 15, most of the girls in my grade were dating 17-year-olds.

Smallville's not terrible, but I agree with the original poster, it is getting kinda cliched. It used to be one of my favorite shows, but it's not standing up to Lost, Alias, 24, Stargate and CSI anymore. Maybe as it gets further into the season, it'll prove me worng.

Back it up just one more year and you have a high school junior dating someone in junior high. And that's far too freaky for me. I can't imagine any responsible parent allowing that to happen.
Sorry, but that did not disturbed me. Coming from a combined high and intermediate school, I've seen upperclassmen (sophomore, junior, and senior) hooking up with lowerclassmen (7th, 8th, and freshman). While it is still common to see couples who are one grade apart, there are uncommon occurence of couples who are more than 2 grades apart. I remembered a senior dating a 7th grader while I attended.

You think Smallville can't stand up to Stargate?

Well there is no accounting for taste. Although I guess I should shut my mouth I have never watched either of the afore mentioned contenders.

Disappointed

I must admit, I had alot of hope in this season of Smallville and though some points have become interesting, it has been overall disappointing. After the buffyverse disappeared I needed some good quality television. But whoever said that it has become too formulatic hit the nail on the head. I woudln't say krypto villian of the week, but the show is beginning the same way, ending the same way and the same problems in the middle. They wrapped everything up too quickly in the first episode. It was like watching the waltons.

Comparing it to a good show, for instance, the third season of buffy. Angel supposedly died at the end of the second season. We didn't know he was alive and "right" until some episodes into it. That played a big part in the next season. Buffy died at the end of season 5 and we didn't know she wasn't right until 8 episodes in.

Smallville. Two character supposedly died. By the second episode their up, about and taking on the first day of school. No lasting consequences and a big ole happy ending. Now we're stuck with too many chloes. I love kingdome come books so I love what their doing with their version of superman, but the show really needs to have some structured arcs and some long term effects and consequences. If characters are just going ot die and come back without any lasting effects it really doesnt give me much to invest in.

I will have to agree with whoever said stargate is the best scifi show on television right now. It has truly taken over the farscape mantle ( though not as great a show as farscape).

Okay, not fair, you guys didn't list of shows you like so I could tell you how awful your taste in TV is. :p Oh, I'm also a fan of Enterprise, X-Files, Buffy, Angel, Simpsons, That 70's Show, Tru Calling, Arrested Development and Family Guy, so more criticism is always welcome.

Not in so many words, but I guess that was the implication. Stargate may be a bit hokey, but not nearly as much as Smallville. Heck, Justice League Unlimited is more believable than Smallville. But that's why I like it, I guess. They really should start serializing the seasons a bit more though. Kryptonite-powered flavor-of-the-week is getting old.
