Smallville or Dullsville

Not in so many words, but I guess that was the implication. Stargate may be a bit hokey, but not nearly as much as Smallville. Heck, Justice League Unlimited is more believable than Smallville.
Interestingly enough, believability is my biggest sticking point with Stargate, which I personally think is so bad the only sci-fi show that's worse is Enterprise. How they expect the viewer to believe that SG-1 can survive mission after mission facing hostile, technologically advanced and heretofore unknown alien empires with Jack O'Neill in command is beyond me. It's like the alien from Predator being beaten by the Three Stooges. Riiiiight.

For fairness' sake: I enjoyed Buffy the Vampire Slayer immensely up until the Mayor died (Season Five?) I enjoy Farscape. I really loved The Pretender while it was on, right up until the second movie, which was hokey (Jarod....Prophecied Savior?) I'm a big fan of Law & Order (the original, none of the knock-offs.) I tuned in weekly to Star Trek: The Next Generation, which I thought was fantastic, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, which in its final seasons was even better. And I'm still a great admirer of Rod Serling's Twilight Zone, which, though many shows have tried, remains without a worthy successor.

Or -- much more baffling to me -- CSI? Good god what an awful show.
Unless you can prove to me those forensic procedures are made up, I thought it and the two spin-offs are pretty good, whose premise are based on forensic procedures not characters.

Although I can relate to Grissom. I'm partially deaf.

Personally I'm pissed off at the whole Lois Lane thing. In the original movies, she is supposed to be about half of Clarks age. Her and him going to Smallville high together is just wrong. If things don't get better soon (Kryp/Tuck was just boring), I'll be watching Enterprise again. Not to say that Enterprise is way better, but at least it has a central plot now (for this season at least). If tomorrows episode is ho-hum, I'm done with Smallville. This is one bad year for TV Shows in my opiion. At least I can look forward to Blue Collar TV and Drew Carreys Green Sreen show.

Dude, they are only 3 eps in. And the show has proven that its stronger episodes are near the middle/end of the season.

Lois? Half Clark's age? Dude, Margot Kidder looked older than Chris Reeve in the movies! And Lois was already a respected, Pulitzer-winning journalist (and former girlfriend to Lex) by the time Clark got his job at the Daily Planet!

CSI (and most other cop shows that rely heavily on forensic investigation) typically vastly overstate the accuracy of labwork, and vastly understate the time required. In CSI they get their stuff analysed in hours or days, when typical tiems are more like weeks and months.

Agreed - the actual processes are waaay overstated - as we've seen in real life, evidence can be contaminated, and takes a lot longer to process. Even if they're only working one county, the case loads would be larger - I think most people understand the suspension of disbelief on this point. But almost all the procedures they show are sound science, and they put a positive spin on law enforcement in general, which is something I can get behind. Past that, I've always been a fan of murder mysteries, and the "revelation moment" is always pretty cool in the CSI's, when someone puts the final pieces together and make sense of the mess.

I haven’t done a review to see how many times a non-kryptonite villain has been featured. This is something I’ll have to look into, my curiosity is now up.

There was that corrupt cop guy that framed Jonathan when Clark didn't do what he wanted.

People here, perhaps. People in general, I'm not so sure. I have heard a few too many people say things like "Well, they could just do a DNA scan, and know in a few hours.."

Science education in the US is doubleplusungood, you know.

Soon all TV will be reality shows and CSI spin-offs and clones, there seems to be no end to them! ;)

Anyway, I liked Smallville a LOT more last season. It's been crappy so far this year. Adding Lois Lane to the cast was stupid, and now she goes to Smallville High! *groan*
