I started watching the show again because I really like James Marsters. I did think the first episode was kind of weak, as I was expecting a much better fight from the two Kryptonians. Their exit was sad in my opinion.

But I love James Marsters. And they kept the blonde hair.

Blondie Bear went all Brainie.. :D

I'm hoping they grow up and none of that teenie bopper lets pretend to have sex every episode crap from last season. The end of season 4 redeemed it in my eyes but it took a lot ot get my gf to watch the season premiere after she lost her faith during one of those teenie episodes.

I found the season 5 opener to be a bit underwhelming. Clark vs. Disciples of Zod should have been a battle to remember, not just a shoving match. But I think the season is now propelled and going somewhere.

It's funny how I sympathize with Clark every time he lies to Lex. And how I also sympathize with Lex when he's being lied to. No wonder the guy's going buggy!

I like the teen romance thing -- it's kind of precious to me for some reason. The Chloe-Clark-Lana triangle resonates with me -- in hs/college I was often in the Chloe position where I was the "good friend" who wasn't gettin' the lovin'. :)

Another thought: I'm so used to watching it on DVD -- watching it live with all of those interuptions and screen ads at the bottom etc. was kind of torturous. :)

I just hated all the gratioutous teen sex shows they showed last season. It was like it must be sweeps month because every other show was some kind of love potion or love spell or losing inhabitiions. Kinda got annoying real quick. Plus I liked lois lanes character initially as a decent one shot but being a semi-regular really pushes it.

I imagine the ratings are slacking so they are turning to sex to increase viewing.....

More musings...

Mrs. Noah and I kind of like the sexy stuff. :) Nuf said.

The most alien character of the show is Jor-El -- I truly am mystified by his motives. No wonder Clark and the Kents distrust him -- he's talking about saving earth but not saving individual humans, talking smack about human emotions, etc. He's kind of alive and kind of not. This is all coming from someone who isn't a comics reader btw -- my sole knowledge of Superman (and thus Jor-El) is from hazy recollections of the first two films. Anyone have any insights on Jor-El?

A question -- what is the official line on grown up Clark/Superman -- why is it that no one recognizes them as the same person? Is it truly just the glasses and hairstyle?

And another question (spoilery) -- what's the Braniac villain like in the comics (or other sources)? Will be curious to compare to how they handle him in the show.

Ok, so far so good...I agree the buildup to the baddies was awesome and the fight was a let down, but the Chloe reveal as well as getting us prepped for season 5 was good for me. I am again looking forward to the next episode.

There is no official line, save that he is just that good an actor; he changes his entire demeanor when he switches from Clark to Superman. One of the most recent books said somerthing like 'No wonder no-one connects the two; no-one would ever beleive Superman would want to live like one of us'.

I have no idea where they might be going with the Jor-El line. Now, the revisions that Burne introduced basically made Krypton an advanced but sterile culture: they didn't even have sex anymore and never took off these advanced monitoring suits they wore. Jor-El was one of the few who liked the idea of Krypton's past and wanted to send his son to Earth because it wasn't a sterlie paradise like Krypton. There was a device/person that showed up later called The Eradicator, who was something like a being programmed to insure the survival of Kryptonian culture. It could be something like that; a machine that thinks it's 'saving' the world by remaking it.

My favorite theory, though, is that it's not Jor-El at all, but either Braniac or General Zod. Either one would love the idea of a Kal-El under their control, and I think that's what they are seeking to do. All that 'help the Earth' stuff is just hogwash because he knows the Kent's have given Clark a pretty strong moral compass so they have to address that and tie their requests to that first before they can start to bend him away from it. But he doesn't have any real idea of what human emotions are like, and so does it pretty heavy-handedly, antagonizing Clark as much as influencing him.

Braniac's Wiki entry seems to be pretty accurate and complete.
