Sneak Attack

Thank you for the links.

I am happy to play the way the DM rules. I really don't want to be the guy who constantly challenges the DM in every little thing. We're a fairly inexperienced group so issues like this are bound to come up. I'll just tell him about these articles and let him make the decision.

Thanks again!

This Q pops up from time to time, so "lots" of people question how it works.

As Mvincent wrote, show him this thread. If fact, get the whole group to look at the site. It offers a plethera of good advice, on just about every playing style there is.

And i'd question the DM out of game time, in as friendly a manner as possible.

Re: Str damage with off hand weapon.

Check PHB pg 8

Damage rolls when using a melee weapon or a thrown weapon (including a sling). (Exceptions: Off-hand attacks receive only one half the character’s Strength bonus, while two-handed attacks receive one and a half times the Strength bonus.

Now the sneak attack damage only applies to the first attack when you are invisible (unless other conditions are met concurrently - like flanking). Because the first attack makes you visible again and thus the opponent is no longer denied his dex bonus to AC due to you be invisible. (assuming invisible not greater version)

Yup, Rogues definitely get their sneak attack on every attack in a round that meets the requirements of denying their opponent their Dexterity bonus.

A great online reference is Online SRD

The wording straight out of the sneak attack description for rogues is, "The rogue’s attack deals extra damage any time her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the rogue flanks her target."

Note the bolded text. Not on the first strike. Not on main hand strikes. Any time the conditions are met.

This is how the 20th level rogue in my run dropped the hammer on an enemy with a full attack sequence with the extra attack from haste for a damage total of 349 HP.

Remember, there's a reason you never want the rogue behind you, and always want to make sure he is protected against mind control.
