So... about sunder...

Its biggest loss is that Sunder is a Standard action, not an attack. You only get to do it once per round.

IIRC there's a recent FAQ entry that clarifies that sunder is an attack and not a standard action.

sunder can be very effective if you focus a couple of feats on it. the PB has imporved sunder, not allowing an A.O.O., and in complete warrior, there are two feats that when combined are quite awesome.
there is a feat for barbs when they hit an "inanimate object" in a rage they get +8 to str. this includes weapons, armor, etc. there is also another tactical feat called combat brute. when combined with power attack, you can attack a weapon, get a bonus, and if you destroy the weapon, you get to cleave the weilder of said weapon. this cleave counts as a cleave attempt, so have great cleave.
so if a barb specs in destroying weapons, you could disarm folks in a rather quick way.

I've never seen it used in any 3.x game I've ever run or played in...

Why would you destroy potential treasure?
Because you have DR & SR and if you break their weapons it's harder for them to hurt you.
That dang archer keeps on hitting you from a distance, and their bows are just so easy to break.
Same with rogues, their sneak attacks and their light (low hit point) weapons.
Because the weapon is just one item of treasure, you can enjoy the rest of the stuff after they are dead.
Because it's _so_ much fun to sunder a Heward's or Bag that contains all their stuff and watch them try to get around without it.

And few people notice that Hydra's have a swim speed.
Put it in the water and it's _much_ harder to kill.

Fireball 'em from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.
Fireballs bounce off the surface of the water.
Right?
