So, has anyone played a wizard in full plate yet?

It's not quite as bad for warlords. For one, they don't lean on Int nearly as much as Wizards do. For two, the Plate-only armors aren't nearly as non-synergistic for them. For three, they don't have to spend nearly as many feats as Wizards do, or go as far out of their way for stats.

But yeah, if you're optimizing solely for AC, it's probably not a top-flight choice for a Tactical warlord. (Inspiring Warlords would be fine in plate, though)

But better in Scale and a light Shield.

Uhm, no. The "next highest Wizard" is going to have 30 int and have spent one feat to get leather, giving them (wait for it) a base AC of +14. Heavy armour for builds that actually get int or dex as a primary or secondary stat never really "pays off".

Pretty good for star pact warlocks though.

Actually, the "next highest" wizard will have a base AC of +15, having spent two feats to get hide proficiency. Not very common though, since it requires starting stats of Str 11, Con 11, and Int 20.

The typical 30th-level wizard who pays attention to AC will have a base AC of +12 to +13. I'm assuming a starting Int of 18 (16 plus racial mod), took Leather Armor Proficiency, may or may not have picked the Demigod epic destiny. So it's not quite +14, but it's hardly worth putting 15s in two irrelevant stats and dumping four more feats to reach that fabled number.

The only way I might think about it is to go Eladrin Staff Wizard of the spiral tower to get that extra +1 from my long sword.

Tee hee ... I was considering a tiefling wizard that has back to the wall ... and the wall is a wall of fire ... just to have a bit more AC.
Pretty dumb, but I can't help laughing still.

A wizard will be doing far better things with his stats and abilities than going for plate. At least the option is in the game, though, because maybe later, it will be easier, or make more sense. Light proficiency is a good use of a feat, especially witn +4 light armor becomes available.

The "next highest wizard", if he started with 20 (18+2) Int, can only have at max 28 int.

Together with +6 elderhide that gives him 30 AC (+10 base, +11 hide, +9 Int), the wizard with a +6 godplate also has 30 AC (+10 base, +20 plate, + 0 Int).

So all the feats burned and not a single point better AC.

My tactical warlord is settling for Hide armor. If you have a 16 INT, you get the same AC as with Chain, but no movement penalty, which, I can imagine can only be to the good with all the positioning you do. You're certainly not optimizing for AC, but it takes full advantage of your INT, and doesn't cost you any extra feats, nor the stats to qualify for them. The other option, good for the inspiring warlord, is to get enough CON to get Scale proficiency, and enough DEX to eventually specialize in it, removing the movement penalty. Your'e only one AC down from plate, and you can take Heavy Shield proficiency, and, eventually, specialization, as it has the same DEX preq as scale specialization.
