So, how are the War of the Dragon Queen minis?

Felon

First Post
Haven't seen a thread on this yet, so I was curious to know if the WotDQ minis are up to snuff, or if we're staring the barrell of another War Drums fiasco.

How are they? Anyone got a complete set yet?

The reports I've heard are that the miniatures are excellent.

The fiasco of this set has come from the packing of the miniatures, with many cases have exactly the same huges & rares. (Wizards are investigating this, and are rather less than happy about it).

Cheers!

The figures themselves are stellar! I put the Displacer Beast Pack Lord beside the Aspect of Tiamat, and it just goes to show that there are huge minis and HUGE minis. The purple worm, the fiendish spider, and the huge fire elemental are wicked nice huges to have as uncommons.

The tavern brawler is just plain fun, and the cloud reaver is an excellent pirate figure. Two fantastic picks for commons, as is the diseased dire rat. I want a *big* pile of stirges, but unfortunately they're uncommons - I'll probably pick up a multiple of them on eBay. The storm archer is really nice, and I really hope they keep doing classy transparent figures like that.

Overall, a very nice set of miniatures including a lot of fairly iconic creatures. Anybody who plays D&D stands a good chance of getting at least one figure that they can use for RPG purposes per booster.

better than I expected. On web tiamat look silly with the red head having steer horns, in person they are not that prominent.

Thank god I only got one Bluespawn god-awful huge. The rest of my huges i like or at least don't mind 2 stone trolls, 1 fire elemental, 1 purple worm, 1 spider, 1 tiamat, 2 mammoth riders.

Frank! I didn't get a mammoth rider - got 4 fire elementals, 3 purple worms, 2 fiendish spiders, 2 displacer beasts, 2 godslayers, 2 trolls, though... Don't suppose you want to trade it? ;)

ps.. The minis are all really great looking, I think. We got a case when they came out and I don't think we got any repeat huges in that - got dracolich, sorcerer on a black dragon, purple worm, stone troll, displacer beast, & fiendish spider, if I remember correctly.

From what I can tell every case has one of the following 2 pairs of minis:
Eldrich Giant/Tundra Scout
Dracolich/sorc on dragon
Tiamat/Bahamut

Has anyone gotten a case with two different rare huges?

Mark

Ended up with double aspects after three cases but I'm not too sad about it. Hopefully the other cases I ordered will be arriving soon and will net me the few I'm missing for the set.

Okay, without starting a flame-fest, what's the distribution like on things like dragonspawn (and, to an extent drow)? Some of the minis would be great to add to the collection, but I have little interest in spawn.

Yes - there are plenty of exceptions to that rule.

Cheers!

Well, there is a Whitespawn common, a greenspawn uncommon you could use as a green dragon or dino proxy, a blackspawn uncommon humanoid that would make a good fiendish minotaur or demon, a redspan uncommon that would make a good fire lizard or dino in a pinch, and a huge uncommon that (sucks) but would be a good half-dragon giant if needs be. Basically at least one spawn per mini slot. That said, there are lots of other minis in this set to take your focus off these newcomers.
