So how many of you made the switch?

Did you make the switch to 3.5?

  • No. 3.0 works just fine as it is for me/my group

  • I use a smattering of both, or the choices above are not quite right for me.

I "switched" to 3.5, though at the time of the switch, I only had a 3.0 PHB that I picked up for 50yuan (Chinese dollars), which is super-cheap. So there wasn't much economic inertia keeping me tied down to 3.0.

Since then, however, I have picked up quite a few books, and would likely resist a change into a new edition more than I did going from 3.0 to 3.5.

My group made the switch TWO years after the introduction of 3.5e.

Not a complete switch, mind you, since we're waiting on WotC to release the standard formatted (as in "not leatherbound") Special Edition Printing of the [smallcaps]Dungeon Master's[/smallcaps] Guide v.3.5.

When I run/play D&D, I use 3.5.

Mostly, I made the switch because I needed to be accurate to the newest rules when writing for Dragon, but 3.5 did make some major improvements, mostly tweaks to the core classes and spells.

I finally switched over to 3.5 in 2005, and haven't looked back. The presentation, balance and organization of the 3.5 books is superior IMO - at least, it works better for our group and playstyle. I wish I hadn't been so stubborn; I could have switched over earlier.

I have a significant investment in 3.5 material now, and I dearly hope the rumored 4E is backwards-compatible with my 3.5 stuff. If it's not... I'll be sticking with 3.5 for my home games and will probably drop from RPGA and other organized play that requires "current version" compatibility. :\ I'm delighted with the way 3.5 plays and its modularity of design, and I'm in the "if it ain't broke" school for sure regarding 4E.

A hybrid of the two. . .

Buff spells now last 10 minutes/level (which is a compromise btwn the two versions)

Cover/Conceal rules are 3.0

Still use Ambidexterity with our Two-handed fighting.

No Pokemount for the paladin

etc. .

We use 3.0 for the core rules and spells (3.5 PHB spells are are instead 3.0 for us for instance). New classes, feats and non core PHB spells are used as 3.5 unless there needs to be changes to them (Damage reduction for instance). Oh monsters we use from all over the place.
