So how much is this worth?

An item that boosts any uses of one certain skill by +3 +1/level, to the maximum allowed (in other words, treats the skill as maxed out, but can't exceed the normal maximum)?

I'm thinking that's worth 10,000 GP (the same as a +10 skill-booster). It isn't that great at lower levels, but scales up as the character advances, and is worth more, at high levels. Overall, it averages out.

What do you think it's worth?

It's basically like having an extra skill point, which is like a +2 to int, but you can't pick the skill, you can't spend the points on different things from level to level, and it doesn't apply to anything else int helps, like skill checks or save DCs.

Of course, normally, a +2 int item doesn't give you full ranks like you've had that stat from 1st level on.

What's the cost for a +23 skill item? +10 is 10,000? Is it 1000/skill point? So 23,000 for a +23? And a +2 int item is 4000 gp, right? I'd eyeball this right about where you did, 8 to 10 thousand.

Steverooo, interesting idea... very interesting. :) The one thing I would like to add is that some skills are far more viable than others and if your looking at one of those then it should cost more, while other skills aren’t as useful might cost a tad less.

I mean a multi-classed fighter/rouge (say 13 level over all) is going to love that spot at 16 ranks. Even more if you start looking class specific skills like, read lips, decipher script. etc

Not saying this is broke, not by a long shot, just show how much it will cost more for this variation of item or how much fine print you will want/need to add.

No, it's SL x SL x 100, so a skill level 10 item is 10 x 10 x 100 = 10000, and a +23 item would be 23 x 23 x 100 = 52,900 GP (assuming I did the math right).

Kinda like, now, a +5 Rope Use item costs the same as a +5 Hide item, eh?

Yes and no, I just see this as a tool to get a skill you really shouldn't have...

Say you’re a 12th level character.

Fighter 11/ Rogue 1

You have that item and that item in question is giving a + 15 to hide.

Now that same fighter could have: Shadow, greater +15 upon his armor.

But that costs 33,750 GP
