So I'm Watching Ocean's Eleven...

Sorry to resurrect a thread from page 2, but I had thsi idea, and I couldn't stop it.

Dune. Oh yeah... that would be the coolest. You've got:

Bene Gesserit: crazy psionic witches
Bene Tlielax: crazy gene manipulatorsFremen: Stab-man. Knifey-boy.
Sardukar: Billy-Bad-A-on-a-stick fighter
Guild Steersman: Wierd worm-people that can travel through space

For classes, you got:

Mentats, fighters, reverend mothers, Tlielaxu shapeshifters, spice pirates, etc. etc. etc.

I can't believe this hasn't been done before.

Note - I am, in fact, talking about the George Clooney, Brad Pitt Ocean's Eleven, as opposed to the musical the Rat Pack did.

Musical?

I've only seen it once, but I don't remember anyone spontaneously breaking into song. I was able to follow along this thread based on the premise of a "heist" movie, which it was.

The Great Escape would make an awesome game.

I have an idea for such an escape game set in my campaign world, but it hasn't been necessary yet. Then again, the players edged pretty close to a TPK last Sunday and at one point one of them said "okay, what's your next idea for a game." :)

The Ocean's Eleven, Heat, etc type games are very appealing to me, but I am intimidated by the massive amount of prep they seem like they would need. Am I a wimp for worrying that I know one of my players will say "Okay, let's get a copy of the plans for the target building and all next door buildings. What do they look like?" or "Shouldn't there be a sewer line running here?"

Maybe I'd have to just make plain up front with the players that it would have to be a stylistic thing rather than a "I will provide all handouts with technical accuracy" thing.

Right. At least in a Modern setting, you can do it like this:

"Okay, Jimmy gets you the plans. It looks pretty tight from what you can see -- infrared laser detectors in most air vents, keycards that are impossible to duplicate, and the floor of the vault will set off an alarm if touched."

"Hm. I see any weaknesses, anything I can get past?"

"Alrighty, you spend a few hours going over it with your friends, and... (rolls Knowledge:Tactics with possible synergy from ranks in Craft:Structural)... you can see that the vault's emergency access vent doesn't have an automatic alarm. You could get in through that, if somebody could knock out the detection grid in that vent."

Like I said in the d20 Modern board (under the "Strange or oddball campaigns" thread--sorry, not good with links yet), I think we should make a campaign based loosely upon Pink Floyd's The Wall.

Y'know: giant walking hammers, Hitleresque teachers, enormous female genitals....this would be a SMASHING rpg.

(...Or maybe a "rad" rpg would be better... :D )

:p

Or, alternatively, what other movies to you think would make a super awesome game? Off the top of my head: The Princess Bride, Army of Darkness, The Boondock Saints, The Big Hit, and Night of the Living Dead (after a cursory glance at my DVDs at hand).
See my Evil Dead: Swallow This! conversion for D20: http://michael.tresca.net under Freebies.

I would love an Aliens type game, very dark and twitch-inspiring. And definitely with Marines. And an Android.

Man I need that DVD...

Oh, and this is just my dorkiness shining through, but I've always thought a game based on Captain Planet would be pretty cool.
See Aliens: Game Over at http://michael.tresca.net under Freebies. It has Marines, Synthetics, and Aliens of course.

Well I'd like to see something on the lines of.
Stargate
Jurassic Park
Terminator
Jumanji
Freddy vs. Jason
See...*takes a deep breath* Terminator: Future Fate at http://michael.tresca.net under Freebies.

Actually, there's also a Friday the 13th: Resurrection d20 game. I had originally planned to create a Freddy vs. Jason supplement but Jason was just too damn cool to be marginalized like that. Someday I'll get to the Freddy supplement (which is harder for a variety of reasons).

Okay, I'll stop posting about my site over and over again, I promise. In this thread anyway. :)

Princess Mononoke could be an interesting game setting

Agreed. I also think Castle in the Sky would be a good setting as well. Not so sure about Spirited Away, though it could be an interesting one shot.
