As someone who has played since 1974 I can tell you that the "D&D Feel" has little to do with the ruleset and almost everything to do with the way in which we who gather around the table conduct ourselves.

It ain't the game, it's the players...

I play 1980 Basic/Expert, 1E, and 3.5. It's all D&D to me. I enjoy all 3 versions of the game that I play, and more importantly, the camaraderie of the other players.

Play with people you enjoy spending time with.

If you aren't having fun, find something better to do with your time.

Ignore blatant acts of stupidity such as people berating your favorite edition. You won't change their mind, and they will just annoy you.

Likewise, don't engage in bashing players of other editions. You won't change their mind, and you will just annoy them.

Do listen to honest discussion of why some folks prefer a different edition than you. You might learn something to improve your own game.

I've been to forums where the insults bandied about included:

Wirst Edition
Suckened Edition
'Tard Edition

Strangely, no insults for Original D&D, though. It's like a moratorium was declared, or something.

All please note we don't like ANYONE using these terms on these forums - not only is it fairly crude and insulting, but after you see someone use it for the one hundredth time, it gets overdone. Kinda like "Bling Bling"
