Monstruously slow. Arms race factor (need the latest version of Acrobat to read, previous versions don't work.) Need an expensive software to do edition and copy/paste from documents. Often, books are scanned rather than OCRed, making them even more slow, and impossible to edit, or copy/paste.
So it's not pdf per se that you don't like, it's badly done pdfs... ;)

I came up with an idea for a campaign where the Elves dissapeared into thier forests (after a war between dragons and devils) for a few centuries. Anyone entering the forest never returned, so it was shunned. During the campaign, the elves were going to return in droves, but they were now Insectile Elves, (using the template from Savage Species), intent on taking over the world, much like ants.

:)

Elves ? Who need Drow's when we have orcs ?

You need diffrent elven culture ? Chmmm ... Maybe we can pick one of our cultures ? But wich one would fit for evil elves ? :]

My proposals are:

Mongols, nomadic elves who keep in great concept dirt-bound races, especially dwarves ... Wich self respecting elf would hide his face behing the beard and dwell underground ? To show them wrongness of their ways, elf-nomads often raid and pillage their strongholds burning settlements to the ground because they are defiling the face of earth like poxes. And to gain from pillage ! ;)

Feudal Japan, where elves would be samurai caste. Intrigues, etc. Bloodshed on massive scale when elven party is raiding neighborn's province. Other races, kept in concept by elves, are lower castes who can be mercilessly slain with impunity by member of warrior caste, say ... elf ? And of course half-elves are hunted abominations ! Elf mother is given choice of honorable suicide ... while the non-elven parent is slain like rabid dog, along with his whole family. And house pet. :heh:

Or the least known by me, Aztec-elves ! Sun is thirsty, it need blood to shine another day. Who would You sacrifice, a brother ? A sister ? Or someone who is breeding like rabbit, is barely intelligent and lives barely fev decades ?

Hope You would find it useful.

I can't top Akrasia's already insidious idea, but I'll add to it. I know this isn't exactly what Turanil is asking for, but...

What if the Light Elves are so contemptuous of humans (and other "mortal" races) because they created those races? Millenia ago elves were the only speaking race. Blinded by their own glory and success, they decided they needed servants. Something smarter than an animal, easier to control than a demon and easier on the china than an elemental. What they really needed was an elf-shaped creature that knew how to polish silver. So they created Halflings. The idea became popular, and soon specialty servants emerged. Some wanted their servants bigger and stronger (humans, orcs, ogres, etc.) some wanted hardy and talented (dwarves, gnomes), etc. Some were simply created for reasons of fashion. For a while it was "in" to create races that were "so ugly, they're cute!"

But some elves balked at the whole idea, feeling that the creation of a sentient race to live in servitude was wrong. Eventually the issue came to a head in a great slave uprising, led by rebel elves. The ensuing civil war destroyed the elvish civilization and spread their servants across the world.

The remnants of the rebel elves were hunted down, but elvish culture never recovered. Meanwhile the servitor races bred like wildfire and now the remaining light elves are embarked on a long-range plan to either wipe the servants from the earth, or bring them back to heel. As part of that they are engaged in a massive PR effort to convince the slaves that they are friendly and helpful, while those remaining rebel elves are dangerous and evil.

*YOINK!*

I like this. This will help me throw in a few "new" races that I was going to have be created by arcane magic anyhow. Now, it's uppity elven wizards...who were overthrown by a separate faction and driven to the Plane of Faerie, where they become so infused with magical skill it is more than natural to them--the sidhe. The remaining elves were enslaved, becoming evil servants of an undergorund illithid/beholder empire.
And thus, elven weapons, architecture and culture are tiny remnants of what they were thousands of years ago, leaving the humanoids with more reasonable lives to prosper.

I like both of those. I'll use these as alternate elven races on other continents.

I once ran a campaign where there were no "sub-races" of Elves...only the one race, "Elf", who were Lawful Evil.

They were the big super-powerful, decadent imperial force on the campaign world, with slaves, etc. They basically viewed themselves as the pinnacle of creation. Their cosmological view was basically like this:

GODS---->ANGELS (DEMIGODS, ETC.)----->ELVES------>OTHER RACES----->ANIMALS

They viewed all other races in a similar vein to the way we view primates...animals who are smart, but still animals. In fact, Elves had been known to EAT other races in some regions (in the same way that some human cultures eat monkey).

Think of an entire species comprised of Galadriel when she freaked out momentarily in FOTR. :)

So, it was Orkworld? ;)
