D&D 5E So what are the (other) ranger archetypes?

Ayup, so not much spellcasting through the levels at which the game was/is actually played.

I can easily see them getting Druid spells at higher level, thoguh I'll admit I've never quite understood why they also get MU spells at higher level in 1e. But I could just as easily live with them never getting spells at all; they have lots of other things going for them as it is.

There is evidence that in ranger got magic faster and more of it and the monsters got tougher and more magical.

1e: Monsters miss a lot and rarely have spells until high level. Ranger got spells ate level 8.

2e: Same as 1e.

3e: What what? Monsters shoot magic all over the place and power attack your face off with +X weapons. Rangers get magic at level 4.

4e: Monsters don't have "spells", magic is neutered, and they literally can't one shot you from full life. Rangers get no magic.

5e: Back to 3rd level magic for the monsters and every single monster can hit you. Rangers get magic or super poultices at level 2.

As for archetypes, that gives me an idea.
What about the Lycantropic Ranger? "He who hunts monsters" but in a literal sense. Fight fire with fire. The Ranger starts a diet with potions infused with vampire blood, werewolf hair, pixie dust, or crushed demon horn. They then can be turn into a sort of monster in combat and gain the special senses of the monsters to protect the land.
