D&D 5E So what exactly is Wizards working on?

Look at all the heat they're getting for "cancelling" a book. ( The never officially announced Adventurer's Handbook. ) Now, ask yourself why they would be closed mouthed about their release cycle. We know they farmed out the Tiamat series, and the Elemental Evil series. It follows that the next thing being worked on has been farmed out, too. When you are relying on another company to produce books for you, you have less control over how quickly they get done.

Some people did get upset about the Adventurer's Handbook being cancelled (I don't really get that since, at best, those people only had a general idea of what was going to be in the book anyway) but, so what? Do you really think that WotC cares about some of our grumblings in the forums? I don't think so.

A company like WotC wouldn't operate without some sort of long range plan. I get that they are experimenting with this new edition but I also suspect that they have a pretty good idea about what they plan to publish over the next year or two (at the minimum). So why not share those ideas? Why not confirm that they are working on a campaign setting... they don't have to tell us which one specifically. Just knowing that any setting is being worked on would be a big morale booster for us. Or, they could say they're working on a book about the planes... would that be so hard to do?

It is also possible that they just don't plan on ANY rules modules. It isn't at all clear, but this seems to be a reasonable interpretation.

Could be they aren't planning on publishing anything other than APs for the foreseeable future which would explain the silence. I suspect that there is more coming than their letting on about though... I guess we'll find out one way or another at some point.

GAMA trade show is next week. Wizards is a cosponsor of the show. If there was a place for them to make a big announcement, it would be there. ( especially considering the cryptic tweets of last week.)
Just have a little bit more patience, and see what the coming week brings
;)

I think that we're going to get a pattern of two adventure paths in a setting followed by a campaign setting to match. Right now we're about to hit AP2 for FR (AP1 being spread across two books). If the pattern follows, we should have a FR campaign setting book or box set by the end of the year, and the adventure path after PotA should be a different setting.

It will be interesting to see how things play out over the next 9 months.

I like your thinking and I'd be happy if it plays out that way. Two APs in one setting over the course of one year sounds about right... I agree that the next AP after PotA will probably be somewhere other than the Forgotten Realms, maybe Dragonlance or Ravenloft?

If they do a campaign setting book (or boxed set) for each two campaign themed APs, I'd be one happy guy.

Another problem I see with a thin release schedule is you have less room for cancellations. If you are starving the masses for product and the next one coming up get's cancelled for any reason then the people are going to get a hell of a lot angrier than if you had a healthy release schedule.

I'm curious, what 5e products have you purchased to date?
