So what is the new "Safe House"?

Well, we're all back from Indianapolis now and I'll put the question to my fellow attendees....

What has replaced the venerable Milwaukee Safe House in our hearts and minds?

(Though honestly nothing can replace it in my heart)

I think The Ram might have anice shot at it, I mean they clearly wanted us there: Open Gaming, game posters all over the place, good food.

The only strike against the place was when some snooty-ass bartender started giving us grief becasue we wanted to buy more than one drink at a time (Russ was picking up a drink for Jane as well as himself, and me..well, I just wanted two drinks)

I mean, they'd sell a pitcher of beer, but not two beers? That guy was a clown  And not in the "amuses me" kind of way.

I was intrigued by this 4 nightclubs place, but it is apparently so well hidden that I couldn't manage to find it sober.

Clay, Emergent and I hit a neat wings/beer place that I liked (W3?), but their DJ was a total chatterbox, just babbling away over the PA to folks he knew in the audience.

I loved the Red Garter, but man...expensive! Well, I guess if your going to have naked women milling around, that's going to show in the prices :)

P.J. O'Rourkes? I've heardnothing but 100% approval from everyone who went, and apparently the same was said of us by the staff/ownership! Match made in heaven, right? I don't think there would even be any question that PJ's had won was it not 15 miles away from the convention centre.

So, discuss.

I think the 4 bar place you're talking about is World Mardi Gras and I believe it's over at the mall. And BW3 is a chain, but maybe it's only in the midwest since I know I've been by one in Ohio.

Yeah the Red Garter is pricey.

The 4 nightclubs are on the 4th floor of the mall at the end with the arcade.

Not sure we have a place with the atmoshpere of the SafeHouse....

Marcus

The RAM wins if it caters to us every year as blatantly as it did this year. Come on how can you not like the Orc (tastes like pork) wrap? The beer was good and I was not super crowded until the weekend.

P.J. O'Rourkes was a blast but can only be considered a Safehouse replacement by offering a shuttle bus or something to soothe the $40 cab fare from the convention center.

BW3 can be found in Virginia, too.

You mean no one wants to join me for sake and sushi at the Mikado, right next door to the Ram?

I don't know, I come from a city with about a million absolutely dynamite sushi places, I'm not sure if (A)Indy could hold a candle, or (B) it wouldn't be crazy-ass expensive.

I am speechless at the very idea. He wouldn't let you buy more than one drink at a time?

Actually, it wasn't half-bad. I live near Chicago, which also has a lot of really good sushi, and I'd say it fell in the "high quality without being terribly innovative" category. Fresh, and reasonably priced for the quality. The only negative I saw was them giving out the soup spoons with the miso soup... :)
