So what is the new "Safe House"?

My husband is from the Indy area and is an IU grad. BW3 rocks! Great for watching football, drinking beer, and snackin' on wings. Best wings I've ever had outside of the ones I make here at home.

O'Rourke's was a great place, just way out of town.

The four bar place which included a place called Brewski's was alright. Peter pointed us that direction one night. There just weren't a lot of people there.

There was both a Champ's and a Champions, which was confusing enough.

Where was Ram?

Next year, we need a bar/club map!

BUCA da beppo! This is a place you can feed 20 people at a time and have lots of fun at. It's souther italian style eating which means lots and lots of food and lots and lots of drinks. Plan on going there with a huge group like us CMP folks did and you'll do fine.

Picutre mounds of spagehtti, piles of garlic bread, and chicken parm to feed the masses and you've got your typical dinner at BUCA's!

Sounds like some kind of wierd Indy law. Lots of the ballparks are doing the same thing - the idea is to slow people's drinking down so they don't get plastered super-fast. Of course, as tehy were selling pitchers, this makes no sense whatsoever. But hey, who said American drinking laws had to make sense?

I wasn't at GenCon or anything, but from talking to bartenders at wedding receptions and such (out of curiosity, I asked why no one could have more than a drink at a time, even though I don't drink), I learned that it's due to laws. Could lose the ol' liquor license. I mean, look at you Teflon! You've got "cop" all over ya! ;)

I'm not kidding, and there was no misunderstanding. Clay, Hound and Russ himself were all right there witnessing this peculiar behaviour.

Did the bar allow underage patrons?

It's not an uncommon practice for bars that cater to college crowds.

In some states a bartender can still be held liable if he serves an individual & that individual then gives the drink to someone underage.

It's just a matter of CYA.

As much as I loved O'Rourkes, after eating at the Ram Wednesday night, I made a concerted effort to tell people to go there and make it "the new SafeHouse." In fact had Billy not started this thread I was going to start one for thatexpressed purpose. more than any other place I saw in Indy, they wanted us there (heck even the SafeHouse didn't seem to want us as much) The food on Wednesday was very good and I think the owner is actually the chef (he came out and checked on our table of 11 people a couple of times). The Root Beer was great the waiter was ok (not brilliant, but didn't do a bad job either). Prices were good (much better than the expensive steak house across the street). All in all I give it 4/5 stars. Now if only it had a secret passage....

The RAM wins if it caters to us every year as blatantly as it did this year. Come on how can you not like the Orc (tastes like pork) wrap? The beer was good and I was not super crowded until the weekend.

P.J. O'Rourkes was a blast but can only be considered a Safehouse replacement by offering a shuttle bus or something to soothe the $40 cab fare from the convention center.

They're putting in a teleportation circle for next year.
