So what is the new "Safe House"?

bartending

Unfortuantly some states have certain laws and some establishments have diffrent rules for serving drinks.

In vegas here when I serve people its one drink per ID unless your sitting at the bar. Its not my rule its my establishments. We also have a card we have to get to be able to serve or sell alcohol at all, if your card gets taken away you cant sell any alcohol what-so-ever(cant even get a job at 7-11).

Just a quick scenerio, with my state laws, if someone comes to my bar and orders a shot and a cocktail, brings the drinks back to his/her friends and hands it to an underage friend, who later in the night gets pulled over and may not be drunk but fails a breathalizer, when asked where he got the drink from and he says, " from establishment x ". The bartender on duty gets a heavy fine($10,000) and your TAM card taken away, establishment gets a fine and their liquor liscense suspended.

So from that I go from a job that pays 75k a year to not being able to get a job at 7-11. The vegas laws are actually pretty strict compared to other places Ive worked, but then again vegas is one of the few places that you can make a huge living doing absolultly as little as possible.

Just a heads up, sometimes it isnt the bartender but the establishment or the state laws...I wouldnt want a person to lose their lively hood just cause I wanted to double fist it one night. Best way around it would be to tip him well that way he remembers you when you come back for another one, he may even look past the rules for you.

teflon billyboys testament is true, the bartender obviously wasn't doing his best to be friendly and understanding about it. i was aghast. (o.k., that is too strong, but it makes the tale seem more epic)

the guy who brought you ps orourkes is actually talking about buying the basement bar 2 blocks from the con center, if it happens he could be possibly the strongest contender around, but if not he is, as mentioned previously, too far. we can hope :)

The Ram was very good. Excellent food, and they definitely wanted the GenCon crowd. To my mind though, it just doesn't have enough wacky atmosphere to really replace the Safehouse.

The Slippery Noodle is really cool, and the beer and mixed drinks were good. It also has one other thing in its favor:

the waitress who served our group had a really, really, REALLY nice body, and was, according to some of the people there, hitting on me.

So, Slippery Noodle it is. :)

Maybe we need to start a fund raiser ;)

How does your establishment/state explain selling Pitchers? (not being snide, I'm just curious)

The Ram is fine (I liked the butthead ale), but it is a chain. We have Rams in at least 3 locations in the Pugeot Sound area.

I asked our waiter if the restaurant was part of a chain on Thursday at dinner. He said yes, it was, there were 25 of them under 2 or 3 different names, but they were all family owned, not a big corporate chain.

We've got a RAM here in Chicago, too, but it doesn't seem to be the same chain as in Seattle. We used to go there when I was in college for the best milkshakes in the state.

I think The Ram
The only strike against the place was when some snooty-ass bartender started giving us grief becasue we wanted to buy more than one drink at a time (Russ was picking up a drink for Jane as well as himself, and me..well, I just wanted two drinks)

I mean, they'd sell a pitcher of beer, but not two beers? That guy was a clown  And not in the "amuses me" kind of way.

While I do like the RAM, I have another strike against that bartender. When I bought a round for Russ, I got him a beer and a G&T for his lady friend. The bartender asked what kind of gin I wanted, and I said it didn't really matter. Normally this would make a bartender use the house brand. This charmer decided to use Tanqueray (high priced gin for you teetotalers out there).

I didn't have a bad time the next night there with a Colorado buddy, but that night's bartender did manage to forget at least one or two drink orders.

I think the 4 bar place you're talking about is World Mardi Gras and I believe it's over at the mall. And BW3 is a chain, but maybe it's only in the midwest since I know I've been by one in Ohio.

BW3 (if that's the one he's talking about, which is a wing chain which is sort of nation wide) has an outlet near my abode in a Denver suburb. I think I've seen a list of their franchises, and they are all over, but concentrated in the midwest. They have pretty good wings as a rule.
