So what is the new "Safe House"?

BW3 (if that's the one he's talking about, which is a wing chain which is sort of nation wide) has an outlet near my abode in a Denver suburb. I think I've seen a list of their franchises, and they are all over, but concentrated in the midwest. They have pretty good wings as a rule.

BW3-wings good, nachos bad

emergent & I went there for lunch, as we have eaten at their shop here in Charlottesville. They make good wings, but the nachoes we had were not very good.

Clay, Emergent and I hit a neat wings/beer place that I liked (W3?), but their DJ was a total chatterbox, just babbling away over the PA to folks he knew in the audience.

You just weren't down with the New Edition, Patti LaBelle, and other assorted 80's hits he was playing.:D
And it was BW3. I like their wings a lot. They have one here in C'ville.

I throw in my vote for the RAM. Yes, their bartender sucked. No excuse for attitude from a bartender, even if you are busy. But all the other staff was cool and they certainly tried to cater to gamers with the posters, menu, and back room for open gaming. The hostess told me next year they were thinking about staying open 24-7 for the gaming crowd.

And I will, again, say how impressed I was with Clay's brother's bar. Very cool. If he gets a spot downtown, consider me there.

I'm not kidding, and there was no misunderstanding. Clay, Hound and Russ himself were all right there witnessing this peculiar behaviour.

Sounds like how they do things up here in Vermont...you can only have 1 drink at a time. It's kinda funny...you order shots, and have to give your beer to the Bartender while you do the shots :)

Ram was nice...we had a kickass waiter on Friday night...the Brown ale rocked...and I think the buffalo strips were good too (my brain was a wee bit soggy with Brown ale by then...)

teflon billyboys testament is true, the bartender obviously wasn't doing his best to be friendly and understanding about it. i was aghast. (o.k., that is too strong, but it makes the tale seem more epic)

the guy who brought you ps orourkes is actually talking about buying the basement bar 2 blocks from the con center, if it happens he could be possibly the strongest contender around, but if not he is, as mentioned previously, too far. we can hope :)

HolycrapHolycrapHolycrap! That would be the bestest thing ever!

Did not even know about the Red Garter, maybe next year. RAM was good and welcoming to the gamers. That one drink at a time is strange but I live in South Carolina where we still use mini-bottles, but that was explained to me years ago, by law you purchased 1.5 oz and the mini-bottle makes sure you get it. :)

If P.S. O'rourkes Downtown opens (or whatever he's going to call it), then that would be the excellent place to go.

(Clay, please tell Rob (Is that his name?) thanks for the excellent establishment. I and my friend Mark had an awesome time!)

T. Billy, did you see my note on where the four bars were on the Gencon thread?

Past that, if nothing else, the Ram has a great place and great atmosphere, assuming they don't have a change of management and/or heart. The one drink max thing didn't offend me - but then, I wasn't drinking, so it didn't make a difference. :)

Did the bar allow underage patrons?

It's not an uncommon practice for bars that cater to college crowds.

In some states a bartender can still be held liable if he serves an individual & that individual then gives the drink to someone underage.

It's just a matter of CYA.

Kreig's right, from where I sit. Not just the bar, but the bartender can be held liable for any accidents after the customer leaves (at least where I am). According to what I was taught, penalties can include jail time and fines as I understand it. Chances are, if he worked for a chain, he had to take alcohol awareness courses similar to the ones I've taken.

I used to be a bartender, and recently took a refresher course, and this was a big sticking point. Still, it's lame that he wasn't willing to adapt to the fact that the drinks were for a large group, and found reason to be rude on top of that.

You know, I've read over the thread, and while that bartender was a total :):):):):):):), I wan to make clear that even he didn't spoil The Ram for me.

The food was good (and fun to order: "Orc Wrap please")

"Butthead" Ale, now that I think of it, is fun-as-hell to order as well :)

They were so "Gamer Friendly" it was nearly unbeleivable.

I think that unless Clay's brother opens a place near the Convention Centre, The Ram will likely be my final choice...followed by BW3.
