You succeeded. Big time. Maure Castle, to me, is the best 3E adventure, bar none.

Well, I'll put it on the same level as Rappan Athuk....

Me and another fella alternate the GM hat, and he just started us through the whole Phlan series....It has been a blast so far...finishing the graveyard, and about to hit the temple of Bane...

One of the most interesting adventures of 1981 was the first release of the Expert D&D series of module: The Isle of Dread. This was the first module to be made up of adventuring in the outdoors wilderness (as opposed to the underground wilderness of D1-3).

hey, don't forget T1. Village of Hommlet was outdoors too. ;)

break out your Outdoor Survival board.

you have to make it to the Moathouse. ;)

Hehe. Does anyone have a scan of the Outdoor Survival board online anywhere?

Actually, L1 has a significant wilderness component. For some reason the base town is the last thing in the adventure.

Cheers!

I have to say I liked seeing the occasional puzzle or riddle in 1e adventures. Nobody bothers with them these days. I don't think Dungeon magazine has featured one in years.

Yesterday, I was given a 1979 ("3rd edition") D&D Basic Set, (6th print according to The Acaeum) in near mint condition. I've just been flicking through the copy of B1: In Search of the Unknown it contains, and reading the notes on converting it to AD&D. Of course, I'm going to 3e-ise it and find some complete beginners to DM.

I'd looked briefly at this set when it appeared but I'd already started on AD&D. I felt no reason to learn a simpler version of the game, so I'd never read B1. It's the ultmate introductory scenario and I've never read it.

B2 is the ultimate, B1 is the penultimate. :)

I've run several 1e and BX modules in 3e: B1, B2, B6, B9, X1, A1, EX1, EX2, I3, I4, I5 and S2

Of them, B2, X1, EX1, EX2 and I3-5 were the most successful. The players have yet to finish exploring the Isle of Dread - they've been there three time and they still want to stage another mission (and they're 12th level characters)

Cheers!
