And Tonguez, I had no idea that those in New Zeland felt that way. Is that the majority?

Yep You'll find that New Zealanders (Kiwi's) in general will not bide even the suggestion that Godzone is somehow 'part' of Australia/Australasia. We are NOT a whinging pack of Convicts who cannot spell Beer (fourecks indeed!!!).

As to 'which region' does New Zealand lie - thats a bit of a complex social phenomena. For the past 30 years we have been locked out of Europe (where once we were a de facto part of it due to our loyal membership of the British Empire - Good Save the Queen and all that) and we spent a good few decades floundering around - this gave rise to amongst other things the CER agreement between NZ and Australia.

Modern Economics is pulling some to declare that NZ is part of Asia (which logically is via Australia but which is harder for Australia to do/accept due to territorial issues between it and certain Asian countries)
Demographically however NZ is the largest Polynesian Country with the highest Polynesian population in the world and a native polynesian population - so many are pulled to declaring NZ to be part of the South Pacific Islands (however this is probably not good for Economics... oh well sorry about that, twas the Sociologist in me:P
