So, where do you game?

I'm lucky enough to have a spacious and centrally located local game store that we play at. The owner, two employees and an employee's wife are members of our group "circle" so it works out pretty well. They have 2 nice sized dedicated RPG rooms that can easilly fit 9, could probably do 10 or 11 in one of the rooms. They have sodas & snacks for sale there as well as lots of nearby places for food deliveries and a loading dock out back with a roof over it to smoke under. Can't ask for much more :)

Most of us live in apartments and none of them are suitable, but one member of the group lives in a highly-suitable (albeit remote for some players, as it is the Westernmost location of any of us) house with his parents. They have a massive dining-room table in a room in the corner of the house that looks out on their yard, more mountains, and the ocean. The quiet and natural beauty make it easy to relax there.

Usually in our living room, or living room at friends house.

It's not the ideal setting, sure, because there are distractions in both houses (pets, kids, phones etc.)

My ideal setting would be a room entirely devoted to gaming and fantasy. The decor would be fantasy related, there would be a stereo with nothing but fantasy music on and if possible have old, antique castle looking furniture to use...

Of course, having a room aside for that and decorating it that way takes extra space and a lot of money. So for now, the living room will have to do.

I've gamed at people's houses most recently.

Actually, I almost always game at home, though I haven't had time to in a while.

I usually was DM, but I gamed there as a player, too.
But then I designed my house around the gaming room. Well, not exactly, but I did design it in.

It is a finished, walkout basement - with a rec room that is 15' by 30' with two large tables making a 6' by 9' playing surface, along with two smaller tables, one by the DM, and another used as needed (but usually in the alcove where I paint minis on it).

It is perfect for gaming - and my study (a large room) is right off of it, where I have my two large bookshelves full of all of my gaming books and magazines. (Along with my four computers networked together).

Everyone who has played there agrees it is just about the ideal gaming location. Now if I only had more time...

We are in the process of converting my garage into a den, complete with insulation, drywall, a/c & heating, and a custom game table with a masonite grid in the center.

Once I get it done I will see about posting some pictures here.

Hey! If you didn't cover the pool table you could use the pockets as really cool pit traps :)
 You don't know how many times I've wanted to shout out to a player "INTO THE PIT WITH YOU!" and flick their figurine into one of the pockets...

My party currently games at Games Plus in Mount Prospect Illinois, they have a huge game area almost as big as the store area itself. The best part is that if you need a mini or just about anything else game related it's just behind the other door. Also fellow gamers and some of the store employees have donated or loaned if you will several pieces of terrain, so you have a ton of different options for play.
Just one of the many different reasons that this is my favorite store.

Being right next door to the largest campus in the state has its advantages :) I can usually get a room with a whiteboard and/or a chalk board with conference tables, although lately I've been playing at my apartment because the bag 'o books just keeps getting heavier. It really depends on how many of my 8 players can show up, since my living room is a bit cramped.

When I'm not at school I usually play in the radio shack at our house, which has about 5 computers and tons of radio equipment. Come to think of it, the space looks like some bunker that you would take over the world from, with the world maps and all...

After spending the first six years of my gaming career playing in an un-airconditioned, un-heated, utility shed with a glorified stool as a gaming table, I tend to be picky about where I play ;)
