Got some extra cash to spend, but only have enough to spend it on one book. There's nothing I need at this moment, so whatever I buy would be just for the enjoyment of reading it and for possible use at an indeterminate point in the future.

SOOO, which book should I buy? Here's the list of what I'm considering.

  • Dragonlance Campaign Setting
  • Testament: Roleplaying in the Biblical Era
  • Ravenloft Dungeon Master's Guide
  • Races of Faerun (Heard this was 3.5 compatible, despite coming out months earlier. Is this true?)
  • The Underdark

So which is the best of the bunch, and should be a part of my collection? Thanks for the help.

Edit: Oops. I wrote Unapproachable East up there, but made Underdark a poll choice. All things being equal, I'd prefer a setting book on the Underdark over Thay. The Underdark's just more useful, though I'd like to have both. Sorry for the mix-up.

Do you mean Underdark or Unapproachable East?
I friend of mine owns UE and it doesn't look like anything really special, but then again I'm not too interested in that part of the realms. The art in the book, is also, generally awful.
The Underdark book, however, would be on the top of my list. ;)
I'm not sure if the book is out yet though.
Races of Faerun is kind of blah. Very cool in some places, very mediocre in others. At least peruse it heavily before you buy it
Dragonlance looks very cool, probably second on my list

I have never heard of Testament and I've pretty much given in to the fact that I will never run a Ravenloft game.

Overall, I'd say get the Underdark book.

Okay, I'm obsessing ;)

Other than that I'd say AU, but it's not on your list :D

Testament, definitely Testament. Skip AU, Dragonlance, and FR stuff- Testament is by far the top notch product among the books you mentioned. Granted, its a little unusual- but that is what makes it great- GR pulled off an incredible, very unusual setting without being controversial. Plus, if your gaming world has a bronze-age era, then there is tons of useful info in there for that time period.

So the vote so far is...

Dragonlance Campaign Setting [3] 11.11%
Testament: Roleplaying in the Biblical Era [10] 37.04%
Raveloft Dungeon Master's Guide [4] 14.81%
Races of Faerun [3] 11.11%
The Underdark [7] 25.93%

Looks like I'll end up getting Testament. As it so happens, after endless mathematical computations, I realize I have enough for two books. So I'll probably end up buying the two books with the most votes. If trends continue as they're going, it'll be Testament and The Underdark. Not ordering from Amazon til tomorrow night, though, as I gotta deposit some cash in the bank, but we'll see how it turns out by then.

Surprised Dragonlance only got 3 votes, though. Guess not many Dragonlance fans, here.

As for Testament, glad to hear it's a pretty good book. I've liked the idea ever since I heard about it, but was always a bit wary about how they'd handle it.

Goth,

Can't believe you said skip AU. :p This is not to knock Testament but come on! In any case Greeny enjoy your purchases. :)
