So, who wants to know more about Magic of Incarnum?

There are feats that allow any class to use one soulmeld, give you Essentia, and bind one soulmeld to a chakra.

This means that any 6th level character can get Uncanny Dodge and Evasion if they want to spend 2 or 3 feats. (Or one of several other minor abilities, but that's the one that stood out to me.)
Hmmm...that may change the opportunity cost for certain PrCs (like Fochluchan Lyrist).

Let me add, that I find the races to be perhaps the most UNINSPIRING (both mechanically and asthetically,) ones I've seen in 3.5. Seems like they were stuck in there last-minute, just to fill the book out.

So incarnum is linked with alignment. So then it's possible then, say in old 2nd edition form, for a Devil to torment incarnum to gain greater powers then to rise in ranks huh? Any mention of any demons, devils or other evil outsiders using Incarnum?

Can necromancy and necrocarnum work together then?
I haven't come across any references to demons and devils using incarnum, but there's nothing to stop them from taking incarnum feats or levels in meldshaping classes.

Necromancy and necrocarnum can work together, but there isn't much synergy between them. Necromancers who want to use incarnum are probably better off taking Soulcaster levels and advancing simultaneously as an arcanist and meldshaper than taking levels in the Necrocarnate PrC.

Heh, I feel that way about almost every new race WotC has done. Outside of Eberron, there's maybe one race out of any given book I even half way like.

So, would a campaign with only incarnum and psionics be viable? I'm contemplating getting rid of all the arcane and divine classes for a campaign in Sarlona, and I'm thinking incarnum might make an interesting second form of magic for people who aren't interested in using psionics. Plus, it get rids of all the complexity that comes with magic use, which is of great interest to me.

I think it would be viable. Psionics supplies some of the game features that incarnum does not do very well, e.g. healing, offensive power and teleportation, but not to the extent provided by arcane and divine magic. It would ease the transition for players more used to core D&D.

Concretely, what's the ratio of [coolness it brings to the game] versus [adding complexity by adding yet another magic system to the whole]?

What does the whole thing bring to the game that cannot be done with other magic/psionic systems?
From my perspective, the idea situation would be to replace the complexity of magic with an alternative to the Vancian magic system with something that would add flavor instead.

e.g., G.R. Psychic Handbook goes into imduing places with emotion and energy and creating familars made from living thought. Very evocative.

It seems, however, that Vancian magic users and healers pretty much have protected niche. WotC would rather have new magics support them than replace them. Grrrr.
