So, who's looking forward to 4E Forgotten Realms?

Oh yeah, I can't WAIT to hear the BS excuse for the second most worshipped god in all the realms, the very embodiment of neutral good, Lathander, deciding to become the completely forgotten and dead god Amunator, the Lawful Neutral (which no longer exists, so...what? Seriously, what?)

The reason is probably "Lathander's mind broke while trying to explain why the <bleep> Tyr would kill Helm."

PS: No, I'm not looking forward to it. I may not have liked the realms that much, but it didn't deserve this. It's like those horrible 90's comics all over again.

Not interested. I got the FRCS for the adventure hooks and an edition change has not changed that.

I do need to get my hands on the new class, though, I hope not by buying the book. I do love the comment about no mroe support after the basic book though. Way for WOTC to shoot themselves in the foot.

We've got the 'grandmother rule' here, and basically it means keep it clean. I'll quote for you the rules that you agreed to when you signed up to ENworld

Keep it clean: Don't use obscenities, don't use clever tricks to run around the profanity filters, and don't link to sites with inappropriate content. The "acid test" we use is the "Grandmother Rule" -- if it would be inappropriate to say to or show to our grandmothers, don't do it. I want a typical 13 year old kid to be able to come here and participate if they want to without feeling uncomfortable. This should be a minor-friendly place. Think about it this way: how do you act around strangers or work acquaintances? You watch your language and you're on your best behavior. That's the ideal we're shooting for here.

Please stick to it in the future. - Plane Sailing, admin

Does Living Realms have its own canon?
This one is rather hard to answer. I think part of the reason is things we aren't allowed to talk about yet(or I'm not sure if we can talk about yet, which is close enough).

It is an "official" campaign run by the RPGA, planned by WOTC employees and a number of volunteers on contract to WOTC. The RPGA has had a representative in planning meetings for 4e, DDI, and so on in order to make sure that our campaigns in the future work well with the rules and are accessible to new players and easy to join and play.

People have heard on the net that there is going to be no more game books for Forgotten Realms after the 2 that are coming out. Therefore, the ONLY canon for FR in 4e is the novels.

At GenCon last year, Chris Tulach announced that Living Forgotten Realms was going to be tightly integrated with the novels and the novel department at WOTC. He said that the novel department would be working with us in order to make sure that things that happened in Living Forgotten Realms would be reflected in the novels and vice versa.

I hope this answers your question or at least lets you gleam your own answer.

If I had not already stopped considering official FR material as anything other than "Just another source of ideas for my campaign among many", I'd definetly do so now.

Wow. I thought one of the problems with FR was that people were complaining that there was too much canon and that the books should no longer count as official canon. Instead WotC wants us to spend even more money by making the books required to know whats going on in the realms. That is fine if thats the way they want to play the game (business wise that is) but I will be staying away from the realms now even though I got pulled in during 3E.

Hmmm... not sure how much I like this, but it appears that the "canon" derived from the books really only will affect LFR. If there truly are only 2 FR books coming out, then canon is mine, really, and I don't need to worry about being current with the novels to feel like I have everything.

On a side note, if they are only doing 2 books (player's guide, campaign guide), I am assuming that they will also support the setting with adventures for FR. I have an FR adventure on pre-order with Amazon already.
