Just wondering if any of you have started up campaigns with the new Gamma World from S&S. How are you finding the setting/mechanics? How's S&S's take on the Gamma World mythos?
I'm converting the 4th edition mutations to go with 3.0/3.5 D&D rules and using a few of the rules from Modern that I like. They are turning out very good, my mutations conversion that is. I'm almost done with the physical mutations and then I'll complete the plant and mental mutations as well as add a few of my own. I've also roughed out drafts of what I want for "races" like PSH, mutant human, mutant animal, sentients (robots and androids) and yes...plant characters. I have drafted my own versions of the Explorer, Esper, Examiner and Scout and I am going to add a few others I have swimming in my head, like the Wanderer, a historian who travels the lands telling tales with his deep knowledge. I also might add a kind of sorcerer who uses ancient tech to create "spell" like effects (Babylon 5 style). I gotta give the PSH something to threaten the mutants with!!
I'm going to use the sentient ideas from the new GW book as well as a few other ideas like the nano tech (I'm not sure how yet, I want to change afew things on how they work) but that's about it. I'm glade they converted monsters as well. I'm hoping the M&M book will be good.
I just finished reading it yesterday. I am getting excited to run it.
Right now I am searching the web for converted mutations, additional moreaus and other rules people are converting and posting. As well as looking over my old gamma world books for information.
Yep, it seems to be a pretty common reaction: people love the setting, dislike the mechanics. For myself, I'm wondering why they bothered adding a brand-new psionics system. I plan to use the psionics system in d20 Modern core book: seems just as good to me.
I love the Biotech and nanotech stuff, and I like the four core "genotypes". One thing I'm confused about tho, is: Can anyone gain mutations, or only "mutants"?
And if a Pure Strain Human or Stock Human gains a mutation, are they now Mutants???

The way I see it is if you've got a mutation you're a mutant. Only mutants can pick up mutations when they level, but if a PSH wanders into a radiated zone and picks up a mutation, presto! He's a mutant. So yeah, under the right set of circumstances, everyone has the potential to become a mutant.
