Software for creating "classic AD&D style" maps.

First Post
I'm looking for PC software to make dungeon maps like those found in the original AD&D modules, and wilderness maps such as in the X-series (Isle of Dread).

Software such as ProFantasy, while reasonably priced, seems a bit too fancy for what I want. I certainly don't mind paying for the right software, but I just can't find it.

Surely it's gotta be out there. I'd greatly appreciate any information.

Thanks in advance!!

Seriously, I was going to ask this last night after trying a few free progs. Printing maps in color on an ink-jet bites. Any help would be awesome.

AutoRealm is free and good. It's probably about the same complexity of ProFantasy, though.

My biggest issue is that it doesn't take my chicken scratch and make it beautiful.

There is also Dungeon Crafter - one of the custom sets is titled TSR Original, and is very similar to those old maps.

Dungeon Crafter is a tile based mapping program, and is very easy to use. I still use both DC and DC2 for many of my maps, generally interiors.

And among the custom tiles are some that bear my handle. :)

Dungeon Crafter seems easy enough to use, but the few tile sets that came with the basic download (which included a "TSR Classic" tile set) didn't quite have enough symbols (although the "TST Classic" tiles that were included were great).

Where can additional/custom tile sets be obtained? What is involved in making custom tile sets?

Thanks again for your help.

I'd pay good money for something that would convert my chicken-scratch maps into nice-looking maps that I could then adjust/fine-tine on the PC.

It's good to see DC is still in action. That was a sweet program, and pretty easy to use. I used it quite a bit during my 3e days.

What ever happened with DC2? Was that ever finished, or did they abandon it and move on to DC3? It was showing a great deal of promise in the later alphas.
