Solar's CR

According to the core rules, they have 5 attacks.

That's news to me. AFAIK, the only thing in the core rules that says a Solar gets 5 attacks per round is the Solar. I don't know of anything that states you get 5 attacks per round for having a BAB higher than 20, and nothing but the Solar even suggests such a thing.

I love crusty and dusty old topics. :D

Of course, casting spells as a 20th level cleric the Solar can always gate in Solar(s) of its own to fight...

No it can't, because the party's cleric readied an action to counter the Solar's spell, while the party wizard summoned a solar of his own. :D

Nor does anything suggest that you don't. If someone wishes to run a campaign using only Core rules and erratta, then their Solars will have 5 attacks per round.

The Titan rides right on the cusp, but not over, unfortunately. Still, with no compelling evidence either way, except for the fact that nothing else in all the core rules ever gets more that 4 attacks per round, period, no matter what, except the Solar, that's convincing enough for me to define the Solar as a mistake or exception to the rule.

I disagree completely.

Not necessarily; I killed off their 5th attack waaay before the ELH and MM2 came out. :)

He said "... using only Core rules and errata". The core rules are the PHB, the DMG, and the MM. The ELH and MM2 are not part of the core rules (as defined by WotC).

Unless you've found something contained within the core rules (using WotC definition) or errata, his statement is factually correct.

Ah, but his mate foresaw this with his divine intellect and already gated in a mate who was hiding behind the curtain, while we're being silly about it.

But the Solar behind the curtin is distracted by the Scry spell a group of Devils cast to watch Solar Carnage 2: The Return.

It's evil's biggist dream! And it's only on Pay Per View!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I don't think I was being silly. If I were to have to fight a Solar, I would most definitely ready an action to counterspell. Because I know that he can do all sorts of nasty things with spells if I let him.

With two spellcasters, you can afford to take turns countering him. The cleric does it rounds one through X while the wizard calls in backup, and the wizard does it round X+, because the cleric is needed to heal.
