Darn straight; it's my job to tell y'all not to "get all huffy" - err, to moderate the forums. :D
So please be nice, folks, ok? :)

Viewed strictly from the standpoint of core rules, the five attacks were not a mistake. It is only once more recent products are brought in that this becomes apparent. Which is all the discussion has been about.
Actually, this debate is about whether solars should be CR 19. It used to, anyway... :p

Sounds good to me. Just won't happen in my campaign. :)
Why not, BTW? ;)

No other creature with iterative attacks in the MM had enough hd to go past 4 attacks. That's why there are none with that many iterative attacks.

Common sense my butt, when they designed the game they assumed going over BAB 20 would give you more attacks.

You can tell me that the sage said it was a mistake until you turn blue in the face. I don't believe that. Remember the halfling outrider? They will lie about stuff like that.

Personally, I've found Skip willing to tell the truth when WotC wasn't willing to say anything. I would also point out that he was one of the lead guys on the MM and would be the one who would know it was a mistake.

I can also see how that could easily be what would qualify as a typo IMO. Just continuiuing to subtract 5 would easily do it. Not knowing (or realizing) that the rest of the team had opted out of a 5th attack would do it. Doing 50 calculations for 50 different monsters to find out how many attacks each would have would do it. It's possible and the fact that IYO it didn't happen that way doesn't change anything.

Calm dude. Calm.

And when you say that you are calm (I know it's coming) remember that you don't come off as such. That's where you're going to get into trouble.

 I better watch out. Wouldn't want to get in trouble on an internet forum.

Besides, I'm sure Darkness will give me the benefit of doubt. He's cool like that. Nemm on the other hand.... (j/k Nemm ;) )

Again:

I think that we already established that it's not necessary for you to moderate the forums. Especially right after I tried to... :)

Sorry Darkness. I was typing the message when you posted. There wasn't a Mod here at the time. Not that I think asking him to calm down is a bad thing. He was being rather rude and no one had done anything (at the time I started posting).

I could have just rolled my eyes and called him an idiot. ;)

It won't happen again.:)

Ok; no problem. :)
See, I figured that someone posting something like this right after I already asked for calm might (whether it was well-intentioned or not) come across as arrogant/patronizing and wouldn't help matters. ;)
Heh. And judging from Spikey's reaction to your post, I think my impression of how it could potentially come across wasn't too far off the mark... :p
Anyway - everything has been cleared up now and so the thread can continue calmly. :)

And I agree that asking for calm in a heated debate generally can't hurt.

Because I use the ELH, and thus iterative attacks cap at 4 in my campaign.
Sorry; looks like I misunderstood you: I thought that you wouldn't have your solars use that spell combination at all. :p

edit - messed up my quote of James' post.

You're right, and I wasn't attempting to do so. I merely expressed to you that I didn't appreciate your behavior, nor did I deserve such treatment, as I have been civil throughout this conversation. Whether or not a mod has to step in is subject to the civility of the discussion at hand, but the point is that I was trying to keep this civil before they had to do so.

I would like to continue this discussion with you though, if you're interested.
