D&D 5E Solasta 2 Announced!!!

5e rules still (for now, but maybe they will add Aasimar, Goliaths, and Orcs in a DLC when the next SRD is released?).

This seems like it's far more open world them Solasta 1.

Cool looking Archvillianess, creepy.

There is a trailer there that was just released at the Game Awards (made up for the surprising lack of Exodus trailer).

So far no mention of races, classes, subclasses, subraces, etc...

There is a mailing list you can join.

Oh and Dev stream tomorrow at 12:00 est and a demo is coming soon so it likely not long till we learn more about it.

Very excited loved the first Solasta.

Edit: more info from articles, like it's co-op.

Tactical RPG inspired by DnD is a Baldur's Gate 3 rival coming to Steam in 2025

I really hope a second iteration of this game includes a storyline approaching average, if not professional quality. The approach to 5E combat was amazing. The rest of the game was... wow.

Someone pointed out this video which indicates that they may actually be using 2024 rules instead of 2014 rules some how?

I was not expecting that given the SRD is not out yet. Perhaps they got some kind of licensing deal with WotC?
They could have a license now that their first game was reasonably successful? It will never be BG3, but it doesn't need to be.

SRD 5.1 (the 2014 one), is perfectly capable of supporting the 2024 rule set. There’s no need to wait for the release of the new SRD or obtain a license from WotC.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that they didn’t get a license from WotC. The got one for the previous game even though they didn’t need too.

I'm looking forward to this one, though I know it can't top BG3 I think it'll still be enjoyable. I liked that in first game the PCs talked amongst themselves and had their own banter despite all being custom characters. It did put some importance on background, which is more significant now based on them possibly going into the 2024 rules.

I guess different continent and decades later could conceivably allow some additions from the 2024 ruleset (like Goliaths or Muskets) to make it in.

How, the race mechanics for example are very different, class mechanics are different, spells have been changed and important spells like Summon X that are likely to be covered by the 2025 SRD are not covered by the SRD yet, so unusable at this time.

I don't think it's that different for species, the first game only used the most basic subclasses of each class in the game and they came up with their own subclasses from everything else. They also invented a bunch of their own spells, I remember there being some really effective 5th level spell that did psychic damage in an area.

The OGL allows someone else to publish derivative works based on the open game content in the SRD and other works derived from the SRD.

There is an enormous multitude of open game content out there—almost all of the new things introduced in the 2024 rule set have previously been introduced elsewhere.

In addition, game mechanics are not copyrightable. Publishers are perfectly capable of publishing the same game mechanics using paraphrased or altered wording. You can see examples of this in Level-Up and the first Solasta game.

For example, it would be possible to have a spell called “Summon Angel” or “Call Celestial” that paraphrased the text of “Summon Celestial” and had the same mechanical effects.

This is actually somewhat easier to do in a video game, as you can have a much shorter spell description and have the game mechanics implemented behind the scenes.
