Solomon Kane

First Post
Wow. I just picked up the new release of the DELREY definitive version of Solomon Kane. I am seriously impressed. Many people give Conan a lot of the credit for Howards influence on D&D, but man, I think SK might have more. I am looking forward to reading this...

I got that one too. Beautiful book. Garry Gianni's ink illustrations throughout the book really give it that 'classic' feel. I haven't started it yet, but I look forward to it as well.

I remember reading a story where Solomon affected a ghost with his bare hands through "sheer force of will" which didn't make sense in D&D terms until 3e.

I always loved Kane...He was almost a flip-side of Conan personality wise yet strangely similiar. I have an old Roy Thomas comic where they met and fought. A found childhood memory even if it "didn't count"

I snagged a copy of the book too.

Solomon Kane would make a damn good paladin, wouldn't he? Though he does come off as rather grim...

Yup. Next time someone disses palidins as lawful stupid all I am going to say is "read Solomon Kane, then talk to me about paladins."

I think that is going to be a house rule: You can't play a paladin until you have read at leat one Solomon Kane story.

An he'd be a fine lad to keeps about on any ship I say! Arrr!

Aaron.

I loved the Savage Tales, and I loved the Comming of Conan... Now I'm just waiting for the next few REH reprints (King Conan and Bram Mac Morn)

SHADOW KINGDOMS - THE WEIRD WORKS OF ROBERT E. HOWARD Volume 1 is
coming in December from Wildside Press.

Robert E. Howard's professional career spans a dozen years, from his
first story sale, "Spear and Fang" in 1924, to his western
masterpiece, "The Vultures of Wahpeton" shortly before his death in
1936. He wrote for a wide spectrum of magazines, from Argosy to Jack
Dempsey's Fight Magazine, but the one constant in his varied and
interesting career is WEIRD TALES magazine.

Collected here are the first of several volumes of Howard's poetry and
prose for WEIRD TALES, in the order of publication. For fans and
scholars, it's a treat to be able to watch Howard's development of
themes, ideas, and style as he produced some of the most memorable
characters - Solomon Kane, King Kull, Bran Mac Morn, and ultimately,
his greatest character of all - Conan the Cimmerian!

Volume one of Shadow Kingdoms reprints Howard's first sale ever,
"Spear and Fang," in July 1925, through his fantasy output for
September 1929. This includes the first appearances of Solomon Kane
("Red Shadows") and King Kull ("The Shadow Kingdom"), as well as
several of Howard's early supernatural tales, such as "Wolfshead" and
"The Hyena." SHADOW KINGDOMS is both a testament to Howard's
dedication to his craft and a unique collection from one of the most
famous pulp magazines of all time.

Edited by Paul Herman. Introduction by Mark Finn. Cover by Stephen
Fabian. This title is not expected to ship until December 2004.

You can order this book when it is published from Wildside Press.
