Some Adjustments to Armor

Alas, I've been trying to learn web design on my own so that I can make websites but can't get Notepad to format for the net properly.

Please start a new thread as this is probably more of a threadjack than airwalkrr needs :)

I have some html coding experience and some open server space... I could host a couple pages for you if you want.

toss it my way and this weekend I can throw something up on the www for you.

Taking that at face value for the time being, I'd like to ask everyone if they think it is ok that +5 padded armor costs almost 25,000 gp more than banded mail yet both still provide the same AC bonus? Is the weight class and maximum Dex bonus of padded armor worth 25,000 gp?

The answer...sometimes:) A rogue for example with a 30 dex (which isn't out of the ballpark once they start boosting dex with magic) will get more use out of padded than leather armor due to the dex bonus.

The main thing about armors in dnd is that most people don't play 1st level for very long. At 1st level, cost is a huge factor. People in fact might have some scale mail just to save money. Npcs are also poor, and may wear lesser armors as well, even till 2nd level.

However, most games probably revolve around 3rd-9th levels. At that point, its all about the best protection, you don't care about a few thousand more gold if it gets you a +2 or +3 AC bonus. If you adjust cost you'll just make it that players won't get those armors until maybe a level later.

What do you mean by "mail"? Mail is just another word for chain. It's not a style or shape of armor. You can have a mail hauberk, shirt, leggings, collar, or coif, and so on.

Wouldn't that make 'chain mail' just a redundent translation of 'mail mail'?

I will definately start a new thread for this purpose. As an aside, can you recommend me to a good html tutorial cite or book? I seem to have lost the link to the couple that I had.

Yup. This has been pointed out many times about D&D in the past, along with the fact that "plate mail" is kind of like saying "cotton wool" or something else nonsensical. I wasn't merely trying to be a pedant, though, I was trying to figure out what style of armor was meant in that post by "mail". The options were "shirt, full, and mail," progressively with more AC bonus each, so I assumed they were referring to more covered area.

Something that might make more sense could be "torso" (neck to waist, a shirt or vest for instance), "torso and thighs" (a hauberk), and "full body" (neck to ankles or feet, including chest, arms, upper and lower legs).
