The two-weapon style pioneered by Miyamoto did not use two katanas (way too heavy). Instead it used the two swords normally carried (katana and wakazachi (sp?)).
I stand corrected. It was still a major step, given the traditions. That he killed three men in live duels using wooden swords is also....impressive, and proves that you don't even need metal at all to be quite successful.
