True story - the D&D "initiation" of a friend of mine back in High School in the mid 1980's was performed in flawless detail by my then-gaming group. I wasn't in on it, nor (back then) would I have been, because I was far too nice back then.

1. The group hand-made several dark hooded robes (didn't have to be perfect, just stand up to 5 seconds' scrutiny).
2. They put together a large LEGO pentagram with glow-in-the-dark LEGO blocks.
3. They obtained one of the groups' large letter-opener as a "Sacrificial Knife."

One of the group escorted my friend (ready with his briefcase full of D&D books) through several twists and turns (Large Antebellum House) into a dark back-room, where the others were waiting with Glowing LEGO Pentagram. At the point my friend and his escort entered, they began to intone a prayer to Satan to "accept the sacrifice of the virgin known as (blank)." My friend had made it through the twists and turns and back to the entrance inside of five seconds.

They can laugh about it 15 years later, but I've gotta wonder what was going through my friend's head at the time. Of course, the group laughed a little less when I pointed out that my friend was an avid hunter and gun-afficionado, and the night would have REALLY gotten interesting if he had taken his pistol out of the car.

Ok, I was slightly offended too before I saw it was a hoax and still think that WW was in slight poor taste for writing it.
