Some questions about mounted combat

What Primitive Screwhead said, with one addendum - when the lance-using halfling paladin gets his one big hit in, he's going to make the DM cry. I agree that the archer is a more viable character overall (esp. when you add in the druid spellcasting, which is very powerful), but the paladin will be fun for the one big hit.

Who is Primitive Screwhead?

Who is..

Or, if you want a bit more detail:

A CP2020 game master (hence the screen name ) who has been running 3rd edition since it was in playtest :)

Also long term military, about 6 years out from retiring from the US Army.

Been thinking about changing the screen name, but too many people know me by it now...

Halfling druid 10/outrider 10, your mount continues in animal companion progression, and you can cast produce flame, especially extended ones, to make a nice mounted "archer". Halfling outrider is in complete warrior, perfect for a character like this.
Now THAT I like!!

So feat progression would be:

1st - Point Blank Shot
3rd - Precise Shot
6th - etc for flavour

We had a spiriting-charging halfling knight on a dog in a game not too long ago.

Haven't tried archery yet, but that x3 damage (x5 crit) is pretty disgusting ... being that his mount is medium he could pretty much do it anywhere and was the main damage dealer for the party.

Made me not feel so bad for playing a rather useless (combat wise) goblin rogue.

A 2nd level halfling fighter can get all of the feats needed, so the hurting starts pretty early.
