Some thoughts on GM's Day...

I believe that we have picked up some new publishers this year who joined our growing band in honoring GMs for their efforts throughout the year. By reducing some of their prices for this truly awesome holiday, it helps to recognize the hard work that sometimes goes unnoticed at other times. I hope that in coming years even more publishers will do so as well. I am sure that as this grows, and more folks celebrate the special day, taking the time to do something special for the folks who toil to bring fine gaming experiences to so many players, we will look back on the early efforts with a warm fondness and nostalgia.

I want to thank SkeletonKey and Expeditious Retreat for helping out as co-chairs this year, and believe me I know how very busy both companies were, so please understand that every bit of support is truly above and beyond the call. I am hoping that we have added a new tradition in choosing annual co-chairs that will become a badge of honor that every company will get the chance to eventually wear as the years march onward. If you would like to don the mantle for next year, I think we should make an announcement nice and early so that efforts can be made to garner broader support throughout the industry with less time constraints than this year and last, so please drop an eMail to me.

I know that some of the sales are still going on through part of this week (and perhaps longer.) While I am thinking about it, I just wanted to thank everyone, publishers, GMs, and players, for making this second annual GM's Day a wonderful event. I look forward to next year and until then...

March Fo(u)rth for GM's Day! :)

A great idea and we're happy to be a part of it this year.

We'd love to participate next year, as well. And I agree that more advance notice (and publicity) would be a good idea. :)

Did it get adveritised at other sites? I don't recall seeing much about it other places, but I could easily have just missed it.

Any ideas on how to make things more high-profile for next year? :)

Creating banners (e.g., 468x60 and 120x60) and encouraging participating publishers to display them on their web sites would be one way to increase awareness.

Sending a press release to the news outlets would help, too. it would be nice if a list of participating publishers could be including in the PR, as well.

You mean like these...

(468x60)

GMDbutton1.gif
?
(120x60)

They could've been found either on this board, or at Creative Mountain Games, among others.

Sending a pr with a list of participating publishers is a really good idea.

Yes. And the fact that I did not know about them until half way into the day of the event should tell you something. If you want to get the word out then you need to think outside the proverbial box. Not every publisher frequents these boards, you know. ;)

Promotion from Fan Sites

Hi all-
As one of the editors for CanonFire.com (Greyhawk Fansite) we might have been able to post it in our CanonFire Crier, had we more notice. I usually visit EN World daily as do many people. Having as many sites announcing 03/04/05 as GM's Day will get the message out. Messages likely need to be out about three weeks before the actual day. Having other majore fan sites posting notices about the day would be helpful. Sticky notes on forums, and maybe even having it posted as the topic for many irc chatrooms. Some of the moderators and editors of these sites might even be able to be given a 'prize' to offer to their fans for helping to support GM's Day. Posting a note that a PDF published adventure/supplement that can easily be fit with whatever the sites topic, can help. A 'prize' that is about 'the World of Sleepy Hollow' won't fit very well with CanonFire or another world specific site. But a 'prize' that involves wilderness encounters, or another easily modified topic would work. I'm not saying that we will do this next year, but with enough notice, and if the editors feel it is in our best interest as well as to our fans, I don't see why we wouldn't. This is likely the case for many other fansites.

I hope these suggestions help.
