Someone please sell this to me!

I will see if I can get some pics of them tonight so everyone can see them.

What we have used that we are very pleased with are the cap rings from 20 oz and 1 Liter soda bottles.

They vary by color and are easily distinguishable. Each fighter gets his own color for his marks, the bard for his powers, the cleric for her buffs - Dr. Pepper Red is bloodied (of course), Mt. Dew Green is poisoned etc.

It did take a few weeks of soda consumption as a group to acquire a sufficient number, but at this point we are really pleased with the results.

We have a game tonight so I will see if I can get some pics taken.

edit: Ninja'd! By another Dave! Hey! Isn't that against the rules or somethin?!?! :)

It's even funnier because you linked to my girlfriend's site, and both articles are based on the same meeting.

Will these minature stands work on a non-magnetic surface. Could I use a metal plate underneath my map?

Yeah, they recommend sticking them to the miniature base itself (using sticky tack or similar). They sell a magnetically receptive sheet, but you could also put something under your map to take the magnet.

We used to use pipe cleaners twisted into rings. Most fights it isn't a problem, as bloodied and marked are the main conditions. Fighting say, a green dragon, gives you a whole boatload, and you can't even see the mini for the rings.

We have been using the Alea Tools markers for a couple months, and I kind of like them, but it is just as big an interruption to take markers off of or put markers onto a mini. We have played around with putting conditions on a whiteboard, but. . .when you have one ititiative count for 8 orcs, and 5 of them are slowed, how do you know. . .

I like your idea. But it roguerouge had a good point. It seems both intimidating and complicated.

I'm impressed by DM's who can keep track of everything without markers. In between trying to help the players resolve actions and getting through the monsters fast I often miss things even with the flags... On the upside I think the complexity levels off so that epic tier is not much worse than paragon.

I've been on the Dark Platypus site before and never seen those so I guess either they are new or I am blind. They look like they would work pretty well but since we often use floors made with Hirst Arts molds they would need to be sticky-tack'd to everything. This would be ok for the PC's but would get tiresome with the monsters.

The bases on my current set are made from 1" floor tiles and are heavy enough that they are quite stable. The biggest problem with them is that I don't have a good way to attach the pole (acrylic) to the base (glass). I can glue them well enough for home use but not well enough to sell to other people. I have also not been able to find a good small-run printing service to create durable flags.

If I can make a suggestion, Virtual Combat Cards (link) might be what you're looking for. It's a combat turn program, and it includes conditions that you can program to do things like automatically end after the attacker's next turn. I've just started using it, and it's made combat much easier to manage.

Fiery Dragon's BattleBox comes with plastic stand-ups and condition counters for the conditions you need to track the most.

And tokens for altitude, action points, bloodied, daily item use, failed death save, second wind...

Not to mention PC counters of all race/class/gender combinations in the PH1 and marking counters.
