Why is it so surprising that gamers can have girlfriends? Being a gamer is a HOBBY, not an IDENTITY. You just have to find the right gametime : girltime ratio. Which from what I've seen, would usually end up occasionally being 1:2 and generally being 1:3.
It's actually a good thing to have hobbies that your significant other isn't interested in. If you end up spending all of your waking hours with your S.O. due to completely compatible interests/hobbies, you have a recipe for disaster. No matter how much you enjoy being with someone, that enjoyment can burn out. If you are constantly doing something, eventually that activity becomes mindlessly boring; same with people. S.O.s simply need time apart to remain S.O.s.
Y'know this might be completely off topic, but I think it relates in some way (don't know how, but it does.) In some parts of India, there is a practice where newlywed brides and grooms spend their wedding night apart; the idea being that their seperation increases their longing for one another and therefore the pleasure when they are together. So in a way, reducing the amount of time you spend together makes the time you DO spend together that much better.
Just a few thoughts.
