I think this was covered early on in the thread you mention above. Even if people have altered the flavor text to match the Sorcerer class information in the PHB, they cant share it here or in any other public forum as the flavor text for the class is not OGL/SRD.

Really? Does it mean that if I write down my own flavor text for something (not just the original text with few words changed) I am infringing the OGL?

In my understanding (granted I am no lawyer), and I may be wrong, but as I understand it, if you were to write a new Flavor Text and call it Sorcerer and reference the PHB sorcerer while changing any of the flavor text, I do believe that is an infrigement. This is why the Flavor Text is not a part of the standard SRD. Anyone fluent in legalese have a better answer?

Maybe my understanding of OGL is flawed, but I do believe that such would be perfectly OK with the terms of use. As a designer you'd be free to use whatever flavor text you would like in conjunction with the mechanics.

maybe my understanding of copyright is flawed, but I'm pretty sure that anything *you* write is *yours* unless you decide otherwise.

Just because someone else wrote down a contract about some stuff they made (aka, the ogl), doesn't in any way change the fact that what you make is a creation of your intellect. And therefore, yours.

IANAL, but you can write your own flavor text for any of the classes in the SRD and still use the mechanics of that class. Otherwise there wouldn't be much of a point in using anything in the SRD or other OGL material.

Starman

For what it's worth, I think Starman's on the right track. The point is to *not* use the PHB flavor text - that's the content Wizards claims as theirs and theirs alone. You can make your own flavor text all you want.
