Sorcerer only spells??

Dark Psion

First Post
I was reading Spells & Magic from Bastion Press when I realized in all of the 3e spells, I have never seen a Wizard only or a Sorcerer only spell, yet there are Assassin only and Bard only spells.

Has any experimented with giving Sorcerers spells only they can cast, perhapts based on their Bloodline; i.e. Dragon, Fey, Ousider etc?

Check out Book of Eldritch Might 2 by Monte Cooke. He has an alternate sorcerer class in there that has its own spell list. It is a vast improvement over the sorcerer in the PHB.

I believe there are Wizard only spells. Rary's Mnemonic Enhancer is wiz only (IIRC). Also, in Relicsa nd Rituals there is Multiplicity, a wizard only spell. Of course, wither of those spells could likely be made available to sorcerers with no fuss, since they would be worthless to them.

I've yet to see a sorcerer only spell though.

Well, as far as I recall, there are no sorcerer only spells in WotC official D&D, but there are a couple of wizard only spells, mostly ones that relate specifically to how a wizard prepares spells. the one that comes to mind most readily is Mordenkainen's Lucubration, which is in the PHB.

Yes, Mordenkainen's Lucubration and Rary's Mnemonic Enhancer are the only Wizard-only spells in the Core Rules (there are no Sorcerer-only spells).

I like Monte's Sorcerer Ver2.0 since they don't need components to cast their spells, but the spell choices are still Wiz/Sor spells.

Maybe something like his Bard Ver2.0 in the same book. The Spellsongs give it a truely "varriant" feel. Unfortunately I prefer "Loremaster" and "Jack of All Trades" Bards to "Singing & Dancing" Bards. My personal favorite has been to take the "Private Eye" from Polyhedron/Dungeon #90 with a bard's spell's per day, but prepared as a wizard with a spellbook.

The easiest way would be to create more Prestige classes, but even I get tired of having to do that to "Fix" a percieved flaw in a class.
