Sorcerer Spell Swap and Prestige Classes

Hi all,

can a character starting as a Sor still swap spells at every even caster level when he gains a "+1 spellcasting" ability from a prestige class?
For example, can a Sor15, who gains a level of Archmage, exchange a 6th-level spell?

thanks!

Although not entirely clear from the text, we do have an answer from a designer. Andy Collins said that the information regarding swapping was contained within the spellcasting ability section of the sorcerer class, so any class that grants +1 spellcasting ability for sorcerer levels *will* allow the swapping.

Just be vewy, vewy careful not to swap out a spell that's a requirement for the PrC!

Complete Warrior reinstated the rule that if you lose access to a PrC requirement, you lose access to all class features except BAB, Save bonuses, hit dice, and skill points.

So if you're an Archmage, with "knowledge of 5th-level or higher spells from at least five schools", and you trade out Wall of Force (your only 5th-plus Evocation) for Cloudkill (joining all your other Conjurations), you lose everything Archmage provides. Including all the "+1 spellcaster level" bumps.

Idle thought:

If you lose the +1 spellcaster bumps... then you would also lose the +1 bump that allowed you to switch the spell?

So the switch would get undone

Suddenly you'd qualify for archmage again.

Then you'd change the spell...

Etc.
