D&D 5E Sorcerer with Warlock-style casting?

Looking at the Sorcerer (as a Wizard fan aka biased towards knowledge over razzle-dazzle casters), I can't help but think I'd prefer it if they used a method of casting more like the Warlock than the Wizard.

Specifically, what if they had a number of spell slots (albeit higher than the Warlock's maximum spell level) but always cast spells at their maximum potential? So, for example, a 10th level Sorcerer would have 5th level spell slots, and any spells he knows are going to be cast at 5th level (fireball, magic missile, sleep, whatever).

They would know the same number of spells, and would have many more spell slots than a Warlock would (as the latter have Invocations aka special abilities), but would be far more blunt than a Wizard with their spell selection. After all, they use force of personality, emotion, willpower, to cast their spells.
