Re: Sorcerer's and changing slpells

And I thought I ran across a feat somewhere that allowed sorcerer's to change the spells that they knew. It was very limited though. Like you could only swap out one spell each time you took that feat, but I'm not positive.

I can't remember where, but I know I've seen feats that allow a sorcerer to gain an extra known spell slot, and one that allows wizards & sorcerers an extra cast spell per day. It might be in T&B, but then again it may have been a 3rd party book somewhere. In any case, such a feat would make the feat you saw (allowing a spell-swap) useless, since this way you could get a new spell *and* keep the old one - just in case.

No, it was T&B.

the feat IIRC, allows a sorcerer to know an extra spell of any level (except maybe their highest level).

But it is good for just one spell.

I fall into the category of "life is tough, suffer" and think sorcerers should keep their spells, they should plan for it.

Whoever said they let their sorcerer reselect their spells every time they level up is jsut asking for trouble, imho. But it is your game.

Psionics have a power called Psychic Chiurgury (sp?) as a 9th level power. It allows the target to gain a new power of any power level useable by the character (a 9th level PsyWar could get a 0-4th level power) EVEN if its not on their list, and it doesn't count towards their maximum known spells.

9th level spell and has an exp cost of 3000xp per power level.

I'm not looking for anything so powerful. And I am totally against reassigning all my spells at every level.

Damn. Forgot about the stupid limit.

Time to hijack the thread...

Hold on now...are hard fast limits always maintained when metamagic is involved. I would argue that sometimes they are not.

For instance, with Mirror Image (is it just me or does this spell come up in every thread), the limit is eight images. Empower increases variable numeric effects by 50% and the number of images is a variable numberic effect. So you roll the dice and get your number of images (8 max) and then increase that by 50% for each empower (max 4 per empower). Maybe this was addressed in the faq, but it seems reasonable that a 4th level verion of MI would produce up to 12 images instead of 8.

With sleep, the variable effect is number of hit dice affected. The limit is the maximum HD of affected creatures, not the over all maximum, so I would say in that case, the limit remains in place (unfortunately). Since everyone is so irked by this limit, why not eliminate it as a house rule?

Maybe there needs to be a feat that increases such hard coded limits...Maybe there is one that I'm unaware of.

I wouldn't allow a player to change ALL (or even a significant) his spells at every level...some sort of continuity is in order after all!

Guys pls stop hijackign the thread :) I am signed up for e-mail notifaction on replies. My inbox is already almost full from my PCGen mailing list subscription.

Isn't that the point of Enhance Spell, from the ELH?

Maybe...I don't have ELH...(I consider 15th-20th level characters to be epic enough, thank you very much).

So I guess there is a feat...not asking for the text of it here...I can probably guess or come up with something reasonable...
