my changes to sorcerer
I think that in terms of pure spellcasting spontaneity vs. versatility it's largely based on your DM and his mindset/encounter types. If he's sneaky and nasty and throws weird stuff at you, the sorc is probably disadvantaged, but if he's hack n' slash then he's even/slightly advantaged, though to my experience the party stops when the healer runs out of juice, no matter if the wiz/sorc still has plenty left.
My problem with sorc is that there is absolutely no reason {that I can see} to stay sorcerer. You get nothing but caster levels for your trouble. The wizard gets bonus feats, not many, but he gets them, that free feat might be the difference between taking that tenth level of wizard or starting your PrC immediately.
Also the fact that they only get bluff as a CHA class skill is just silly and pointless. PHB even says they act as the face of the party, and all they can do is lie? I give them diplomacy/intimidate/Use Magic Device and take away Knowledge: Arcana {why would they have more access to it than anyone else? they don't study.} I've been trying to work on a method for making the class worthwhile to stay in, like making them elementally/draconically aligned as per the flavor text.
I thought about d6 hp, but I don't really like that idea. don't know why.
Forcing Sorc to take another feat in order to use quicken, when they don't have any bonus feats is just mean spirited. Quicken is uber-useful, so I just rule that quicken spell comes bundled with arcane preperation, but only for quickening.
